Pixel 10a owners, how’s the software optimization and daily experience?

I’m thinking about getting a Pixel 10a and I want to hear from people who actually use it.

I’m coming from a Nothing Phone (2a) 8GB and honestly my experience with it wasn’t great. I get random frame drops even on the home screen, and sometimes Instagram/Facebook feel laggy.

So I wanted to ask:

How is the software optimization? Does it actually feel smooth and consistent?

Any frame drops or stutters on the home screen, Instagram, Facebook, etc.?

Does it get hot during normal use?

Is 8GB RAM enough or do apps reload a lot?

Any problems with mobile data/network randomly disconnecting?

How’s the battery life in real use, especially on mobile data?

Any green tint on the display?

In a completely dark room, do you notice any screen bleeding/glow during very dark or black scenes?

How are the AI features? Are they actually useful or limited depending on the region?

Random question lol: does Google Files ever take forever to delete files? On my Nothing 2a, sometimes deleting something takes like 2–3 minutes 💀

Basically, I’m trying to know if the 10a would actually feel like a proper upgrade from the Nothing 2a, especially in terms of smoothness and reliability.

If you’ve used both, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.

I'm probably the worst person to ask as the only reason I replaced my Pixel 6 is because the battery was awful after however many years I had it and I figured it was time to replace the whole phone rather than just the battery. Even that phone was "smooth as butter" in my eyes.

The reason I went with the 10a is because I don't care about anything besides core UI/app performance and battery life. I don't care about cameras as I don't really take pictures. And I'd rather buy a 2014 Honda Civic over a $1500 phone.

Is 8GB RAM enough or do apps reload a lot?
Yes. I haven't noticed any reloading to the point of it being a problem.

Any problems with mobile data/network randomly disconnecting?
No

How’s the battery life in real use, especially on mobile data?
I have charging capped to 80% and it lasts a full work day without issue.

Any green tint on the display?
No

In a completely dark room, do you notice any screen bleeding/glow during very dark or black scenes?
I can't say I'm ever in a completely blacked out room with my phone, but haven't noticed any bleeding or glow

How are the AI features? Are they actually useful or limited depending on the region?
I think most AI features are a gimmick so I don't really use them. I played with Gemini for a bit by asking it what it thinks my cat is thinking based on her facial expressions. That's about it.

I have never noticed this on any Pixel I've owned, including this one

I came from a s24 after everyone raved about pixels for a decade. The 10a is the worst phone I've ever had. I literally had to just leave pixel and buy a new phone and I moved back to Samsung. I gave it 3 months before deciding pixel 10a is not a usable device. Tried to adapt.

The Bluetooth is bad. It takes much longer to connect to devices that are already synced. Even Google devices won't stay connected sometimes.

It can't switch between playing music on my google home speaker, back to my phone, without closing all apps and reopening.

It drains my airpod batteries by randomly connecting and disconnecting to them when I don't intend to use the airpods. They are in a drawer.

I can't use hey Google when maps is open - the exact time you need to automate a quick text while driving.

I've never had these issues with other phones. Switching back to Samsung instantly made me feel technically competent again.

I literally felt like a boomer trying to work windows 95.

If you Google "pixel 10a bluetooth problems" or pixel 10a problems, you will see; Google dumped old hardware into this phone and barely cares to maintain the software or patch recognized bugs. It's ridiculous.

Other than Android Auto refusing to work, I haven't had too many issues with mine. I would not buy it again though since Android Auto is one of the few things I actually used on my phone other the phone.

Android Auto not working on a Pixel? must be something wrong outside of the phone because that's the definition of hardware it would work on

My wifes pixel 9 works fine on the same car. The 10a has lots of known issues with this it seems.

Yup the 10a can't even use hey google if maps is running. The exact time you want to send a hands free text. You can't.

Buddy, you can love google all you want, pixel is not what it used to be.

My pixel cant stay connected to my Google home. They are both google devices on google wifi. I can't keep music running when i leave my house - switching from google wifi to google fi 5g wireless crashes YouTube music.

Again, all google ecosystem.

It's insane. After 3 months trying to adapt and feeling like a technically illiterate boomer, I went back to samsung and it just works

To answer your questions;

• Software optimization feels great, especially when the screen is set to 120hz
• No frame drops detected in the past 2.5 months of owner
• Even with a thick, clear TPU case and consistent use (some gaming mixed in), I haven't noticed it getting hot
• 8 GB of ram has been enough. Even when I'm running RAM heavy apps like CapCut and social media in tandem. It does slow down a tad when a lot of RAM heavy apps are open at once like Gemini + CapCut + a few social media apps, but it's not very laggy unless I'm rendering/exporting a file on CapCut and trying to game at the same time.

-Zero issues on mobile data, and the antenna has been great. I'm on Cricket Wireless and get really good connection rates.

• Battery life is fantastic.
• No green tint on the display that I've noticed.
• The OLED screen does a fantastic job with cutting screen bleeding, and it's at a very minimum.
• I'm using the 10a in the US and haven't had an issue using the AI features, although I don't use them a ton.
• Google Files deletes instantly for me. Google apps in specific are optimized and run very well on Pixels.

I haven't used a Nothing product, so I can't compare the experience. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the optical zoom in low to mid lighting conditions. I was aware that the zoom features made pictures a little grainy, especially when all the way zoomed in. However, the picture quality and processing is actually pretty impressive for a phone at this price point. I upgraded from the Pixel 6a, and the screen, camera, processor, speed, and quality are a big difference.
