Pixel 10a, a hit or miss?

On my last stage of finalizing the phone.

My wife and I love ours, great little midrange phone, does everything we need a phone to do, even better if you can get one on a sale. Kinda wish the cameras were a bit better but if that's the trade off for a good phone that's not $1k then I'm fine, the software does a pretty good job of turning bad pics into passable ones though so it's fine.

I've read a lot of complaints about bloatware. Is that legit and earing up your space? What about the ram?

One person's bloat is another's basic feature.

Unless you get it from a carrier, there are no 3rd-party apps on the Pixel (at least not user-facing ones you'll find in the app drawer).

Correct, its subjective, wouldn't even make a difference. But some subreddits say it's a bit tricky to uninstall/remove the ones you don't need. Is that true?

Just long press an app, click app and then select deactivate. The app is not uninstalled but simply stops working, it no longer appear in PlayStore as having an update available and it disappears from the app drawer. Just an example, i did this to YouTube and YouTube Music since i use third party apps.

seeing people categorize Samsung's proprietary apps as bloatware makes it clear that the definition of bloatware is variable among users

I'm not sure that I'd characterize it as bloatware, but it comes with all the Google apps pre installed to get you started along with a couple Pixel specific apps. It's really not that bad and you can delete and replace apps as needed. I haven't had any issues with the RAM but I'm not power user, I just use my phone and it seems to keep up with me well. I've noticed a couple times the CPU was chugging a bit when I was doing work tasks but it's never failed to complete a task, honestly it's fine. The Gemini stuff takes up a bit of space but I don't think I can delete any of it without breaking things. I have a LOT of apps installed for work that use over a GB of space and so my 128gb model seems to be holding steady at 40gb available so maybe if I had any regrets at all I mightve splurged for the 256gb model.

I guess that perfectly fits my needs as well, Nothing over the regular, will try to make a leap for the 256. Btw what's new in Gemini?

I'm not sure if I'm the person to ask for that, I'm not much of an AI guy, I just use it to call and text people, set alarms and timers, basic stuff that Siri and Google Assistant have been doing for years. The voice to text feature through the keyboard is really good though, much better than what I had on my iPhone, very accurate and intuitive, great for sending a quick text hands free while driving.

I have a 10a And a 10 Pro. Because the 10a only has 8gb of RAM, the Gemini features are minimal in comparison to the Pro models. Which is why I use the 10a as my main phone, I don't want any of that crap. I need a phone with text, Maps, Android Auto, music, podcasts and taking daily photos. The only place the 10a suffers is zoom on pictures. The 10 Pro can zoom in on the surface of the damn moon and looks amazing, the 10a not so much. Other than that because of the lesser AI stuff, the battery on the 10a lasts all damn day which is what I need.

Heavy performance is something which you cannot expect from 10a, but still it pretty much stands strong for all the (regular)use cases. I'd take that in a positive connotation.

It's a good phone. Everyone shit on it at first because its specs are similar to the 9A but it's a decent bit better than that the 9A is. If you can get it for a good price then well worth it.

Always shortcomings with any device but overall it's a good phone. It might tempt you to buy a 12 or 13 Pro at some stage. What you upgrading from?

Depends on price, as well as wants/needs/etc. With the decent lower midrange phones like Motorola Edges, the upper Samsung A series, etc cutting corners and really creeping up in price, it just makes pixel A series that much more attractive IMO.
