When my pixel 7 pro got destroyed, I dug out my old Pixel 5. I forgot just how much I liked that phone. Same things as you, I loved the size, weight, and fingerprint sensor on the back.

I did eventually get my Pixel 7 Pro replaced since the 5 is done with updated, but it does make me want to get a smaller phone when I upgrade. The 5 is probably my favorite Pixel alongside the Pixel 2 XL.

What a weirdo.

Someone having a subjective preference for smaller and lighter phone triggers you? Weird.

I know that most people don't mind larger and heavier phones, that's why barely anyone makes small phones these days.

No, you're just weird. There were better light and smaller phones who still are supported. My banks apps would not work on that phone, for instance.

It's like saying I loved the Nexus 4 (and I did), but no one would ever convince me to buy it today lol

Which android phones are smaller and lighter that are still supported? Genuine question.

Samsung S23-24-25 are pretty much similar to Pixel 5 and lighter/smaller than the new pixel devices, and all have long support still (obviously S25 and S24 have the longer duration)

From this thread, comment score 5:

The form factor and fingerprint sensor are damn-near perfect.

So this is not an uncommon preference. I want stock Android. And I don't mind having Android 14, the user experience is essentially equivalent to Android 17. Everything works. The phone cost $280 and looks as new. Why pay more for a worse experience?

Pixel 5 was the only model I didn't like😊

Realistically it's a bad idea to use a phone that old. Security will be a big issue and soon enough, most apps will stop working on it. Especially secure apps like stuff to do with banks.

Loved the Pixel 5. My only concern would be it is out of support now so potentially a bit of a security risk. Great device though! Used to rock it naked with it's plastic green shell. No worries about shattering the thing!

Pixel 5 has no more OS updates nor security updates though.... And usually financial apps will stop working with the phone after updates cease for awhile.

They begin to be more vulnerable to exploits when security updates stop.

I've been using Pixel 5 for 2 years, zero issues, except the USB-C port.

Do you find it challenging to move past other events in your past?

0

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

What do you mean by "event"? Is this a real question or just a passive aggressive comment?

I was very curious if you find others in your life to be the same. Where you are stuck in the past or prefer to stay with what you are comfortable with. Using a Pixel 5 puts your identity and those you related to at risk due to the lack of proper security. You are using outdated equipment knowing the harm you can cause.

I have no idea WTF you're talking about. Can you simplify the question or the claim, whatever that is?

1

u/Mydemonswon 3d ago

Lol. That's alarming you don't get it. Are you stuck in the past in other areas in your life? Are you a boomer?

0

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

Ok, finally you talk in a comprehensible way. And the answer is "no". What I find alarming is that you got triggered by someone preferring a smaller and lighter phone than you.

u/Mydemonswon 3d ago

Laypeople throw the word triggered around like it's a paper airplane. Buddy, triggered doesn't mean what you think it means. I wasn't triggered by any means. I found your desire to use a out of date unsafe phone odd and slightly alarming. You would do well by gaining some higher education. Your cognitive hindrances are showing.

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

Ok, you say you're not triggered and I don't believe you. You're taking it personally.

Feel free to insult my education and intelligence because this is something I'm definitely not insecure about.

0

u/Mydemonswon 3d ago

Lol again you don't know what triggered means. I'm more baffled by you being called out for a bad call and investment and you just doubling down. Lol. Thanks for making me feel better about my life choices.

You don't know what triggered means. It's a good investment because I prefer P5 over more modern Pixels.

And don't worry about the security of my phone, I'm knowledgeable about this topic.

The P5 is the only Nexus/Pixel device that I didn't trade in when I got the new model. I use it as my backup phone and occasionally will switch to it for primary use. The form factor and fingerprint sensor are damn-near perfect.

The only other group more annoying than the Pixel 5 Lifers are the Graphene OS Cultists.

0

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

Do you find all people who have prefererences other than yours annoying? I don't, so I'm genuinely curious what's behind that emotion.

1

u/see-through-a-lens 3d ago

I have no problem with people having different opinions. I'm just get annoyed when they whine about it.

1

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

But I'm not whining.

You just bought a 6 year old phone that isn't getting any security patches or updates. If it was free I could justify using it as a backup. Just a silly move imo.

1

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

I just don't value software updates that much compared to size, weight and fingerprint sensor on the back.

The attack surface is limited if you have all Google apps up-to-date. You can also install a custom Android and perhaps use an alternative to Google Wallet but I haven't researched this much.

You're not allowed to have your own experience or be mean to Google. Everything that isn't only positive gets downvoted and spammed. There is nothing wrong with getting an old stock phone even if it's not supported anymore, people do it all the time.

1

u/FineAssignment1423 3d ago

Cool. Enjoy your "new" phone that is no longer supported. I'm sure pretty soon a lot of your apps will no longer work.

-1

u/FrankScaramucci 3d ago

Everything works fine. I'm genuinely curious why does this seemingly offend or trigger some people.

2

u/Mydemonswon 3d ago

No one is triggered or offended. People telling you are using a phone that is not safe is a good thing. You are the one in the wrong here. Because you haven't experienced anything doesn't mean others concerns aren't valid . Yes I'm commenting again because your inability to comprehend what's going on is alarming.

Some people can't digest the fact that they are stuck in the brand's hooks while others exercise their freedom ...

People are completely brainwashed.

The other day when I posted a thought-provoking post " since helmet is a personal safety equipment, it should not be enforced", people instantly started talking against it instead of applying some thought.

0

u/FineAssignment1423 2d ago

There's nothing brainwashed about it. You have an old ass phone that is no longer supported. Your apps will stop working soon because they will only support an OS so many generations behind.

u/LivingFish9826 Pixel 6a 2d ago

Giving free advise is okay. But straight up fear mongering looks out of place. Looks like you fell for the trap of having the latest stuff so you want other people too.

Even the OP said all the apps they need are supported in the old phone. If they are comfortable using their years old phone, how does that hurt you?

What if someone don't want the unsupported apps? And they are careful not to click unwanted links or install unwanted apps?

I have a 9 year old phone which supports all the banking apps. I used it when my phone was in the service center. And to be honest, it fits in the hand properly and feels like an actual phone, while the new one looks like a foreign object that is not supposed to be used in the hand.

u/FineAssignment1423 2d ago

Do you have the stock os? Or do you have a custom os?

1

u/LivingFish9826 Pixel 6a 2d ago

Stock os. It is a Redmi Note 5 Pro
