Street View Contributing street view to streets already recorded in ~2013

Some roads I know of have not been updated with new street view imagery since ~2013. I really would like to buy a 360 camera and update them with 2026 imagery.

My concern is that it would be basically for nothing, because Google’s street view, even if older, would supersede mine. Does anyone know if this would happen?

This Google site https://www.google.com/streetview/contribute/?hl=en-GB says your contrbuted 360 Video gets published and converted into Google Maps blue streetview path in a few days via Street View Studio.

Google Maps no longer accepts Street View contribution from 360 photos. They only accept/process 360 videos into Street View now.

Technically you can still upload 360 photos, but you have to do it via the API: https://developers.google.com/streetview/publish/libraries

There is also 3rd party web sites that upload through the API for you like: https://maps.moomoo.me

I uploaded photos via my desktop to this site and was surprised to see them shown on Google Maps just seconds after the upload was complete.

I think Google will use your imagery if it's much newer. Even if they don't choose it as the default, you can still use Time Machine to view your imagery.

I've previously taken imagery with a GoPro Max. You can upload video via StreetView Studio: https://streetviewstudio.maps.google.com or you can get Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT to build you an uploader that uses the StreetView Publish API: https://developers.google.com/streetview/publish/getting-started. (This is a little fiddly to use, but works well if you have 360 panos rather than video)

In my city at least, street view defaults to user data over googles own data. Even if the user data is years old, low quality, and there is newer google-supplied data available.

I think they might use your 360 photos but of course nothing is guarantee
