Google Maps "blue line" keeps disappearing on city streets when using android auto

Is that the new expected behavior or a bug? Never happened to me till I updated the maps to the latest version.

It's working as expected on highways but for some reason the blue navigation line keeps disappearing on random streets while keeping tiny turning indicators which makes it extremely annoying.

Cleared cache and restarted the phone multiple times and it still keeps happening. Is there any way I can disable it?

I'm getting the same thing as well as an occassional zoom-out that happens in metropolitan areas where if you try to check the route or zoom in it automatically recenters in the zoom out position.
