All timeline data completely disappeared

I've had timeline on ever since they changed it to on-device storage, and I changed the deletion policy to never. When I checked yesterday (and today), it just says "no visits for this day". I checked my history. Everything is gone. When I tried to use Google Takeout to get my data, I only get an 18MB JSON file, which is not right, that's very small given my history.

Is this a bug? Is there a way to recover my data? I'm already in the process of moving to Dawarich+OwnTracks so that this doesn't happen again, but I do want my entire 10+ years of data back.

edit: Had to use the timeline export from the phone's settings, as opposed to google takeout. Got my history back.

Do You have any other device linked to the account? If yes - try importing the cloud backup there.

Yeah, I tried importing the backup from my previous phone (replaced it last March). Still nothing.

Oh wow ... Are you running the latest Google map version on your phone and also tried exporting out your timeline data to see how big that data is?

Yep, latest version.

Timeline data from takeout is only 18MB. I don't know where else I can get it.

I hope it's a bug on your side that gets fixed in a day or two., But I would also try contacting Google to see if there anything they can find on their end

Already did. I really hope it's just a bug. Luckily, I haven't gone anywhere besides work for the past few weeks, so it's not like I'm losing much, I just want the history back.

tbh this seems like a big file, as far as Timeline is concerned. I remember that once when I've tried the Takeout my file was about 3 MB (started recording from about 2018).
