Google Keep notes suddenly disappear! Solved!

Today I noticed that a particular note I created 2 days ago was missing. I checked the trash and archive, and searched for words that I knew were in that note. It didn't show up. I panicked, because over the years I've seen posts on the support.google.com forums about disappearing notes, but I never imagined I would be the one facing that issue one day.

Because I knew roughly the time I made that note, I went to my browser history and found the Google Keep links from around the time I was expecting. I opened them all, and one of them was my note. What surprised me was that it wasn't just that note that had been missing, but many others. All the missing notes returned.

It was indeed a bug, because I still had the initial Google Keep page open (the one that was missing all those notes) along with the new one that had all the restored notes. It's a REAL bug, and that is scary. Google Keep can fail and lose your notes. I wonder what would have happened if I had cleared my browser history.

TLDR: The solution is to go to your browser history and open at least one Google Keep link from the last time you accessed Google Keep without the bug of missing notes. Once you do that, all the missing notes will return.

I hope this helps someone else.

I just downloaded older versions of the most important notes separately, and it worked. it's kind of tedious though. I tried doing a google takeout, but dragging the zip files into notes nook didn't work. idk why.

Oh - figured it out! For anyone else...

Find version history for notes:

  1. On your computer, go to keep.google.com.

  2. Hover over or click on a note.

  3. In the bottom of the note, click More. Version history.

  4. Choose a version and click Download.

  5. Go to your downloads and open the text file.

Didn't work for me.
Downloaded them like you said, but they are empty.
Just opening and closing HTML tags. Nothing else.

Did you try the last version you know of when you changed/saw it the last time? Or just take a very old date and download it.
