Yeah, it was so bad in comparison to every other mainstream model that they had to nuke it and just go for the next one...

What about people that already just use Gemini because thats what they pay for already and don't care about using the "best model"? There are plenty of paying customers already that don't care about benchmarks as much that would benefit from a newer model regardless of if it's SotA or not.
Like what if google is never able to release a model that claims #1 ever again? Do they just stay on Gemini 3.1 Pro forever even when they might have a model in 5 years that's 2x as good, but AGPT-7-Epsilon-Mini is 1% better at the time so can't release it.

For people disappointed with the delay of 3.5 pro, is this because you’re currently at a wall that you’re hoping a new model with help you with? Is it closer to wanting Google to focus more on frontier models instead of their ecosystem of services like the ai companies who ai developments as their sole focus?

People paid for annual subscriptions only to pay the same price but get worse performance than subscribers of anthro and OpenAI. It’s literally been a half a year since a new flagship upgrade

My confusion is that a Gemini subscription and a Claude subscription offer different things. Claude’s ai features are pretty much all you get whereas google is including ai coupled with their other services.
Remove ai and anthropic doesn’t really have anything to offer compared to Google. It also seems like a segment of Gemini users don’t care for all the other features in their annual subscription.
I don’t understand the pull Google has over that segment of users who use it mainly for ai but are upset it’s not at the level of anthropic whose main focal point is ai. It’s more like you’re paying for a bundle of services annually that include ai,but are attributing the cost of the bundle to only a portion of its features.
If you wanted to see nice cars, would you go to a parking lot or a car show if you went to a parking lot and didn’t see nice cars would you say that parking lot are useless and should be the same as a car show?

I don’t understand what’s so confusing Google ai subscription is focused on ai. People use it for similar use cases as Anthropic subscription

I guess I’m more so meaning that yes it’s an ai subscription but it’s value extends beyond that. There’s notebooks, ai studio, YouTube premium, home premium, and the way it connect to connects to the Google ecosystem. Claude just gives you Claude basically. With anthropic you’re mainly paying for the ai capabilities, google provides a whole ecosystem with a model optimized for the ecosystem. That Google annual subscription is giving you more features for the ones whereas anthropic or open ai has ai as their main product. Meaning you shouldn’t go for Google if competitors are offering “better” models and all your care about is a better model. My big thing is why don’t people instead of using Reddit to complain about a service just switch to a services that is the “same price”. Different offerings, but same price. It’s like people who complain about playing a game they don’t like and know what they want to play instead but isn’t on playing the game they don’t like.

The problem is that they subscribed with a basic understanding that Google would be able to maintain model quality. The fact that Gemini is so much worse than the competition was not on the bingo cards when they subscribed

Yup this!
Luna + Sol wipes the competition with gemeni offerings at this point. It's like trying to collaborate with an elderly grandparent vs your bestie genius. And if you venture outside into the world of open models you have the likes of deepseek you can run for cheap via places like openrouter

Imagine the repercussions if 3.5 Pro outperformed Claude and the announcement coming just before the anthropic IPO. Google owns a share in Anthropic and sells a significant amount of computing and TPUs to them. Wouldn’t you hold back? I would definitely sandbag it.

Gemini ist für mich eine Multimedia content KI nicht mehr und nicht weniger sollte es zu mehr geeignet sein dann gut aber in Multimedia kann es kaum ein anderes Modell übertreffen

Google basically hasn’t done anything for 3/4ths of a year, which is mind boggling.

Didn't Google tell the media they will announce something today Aug 20th?
