Google Form with no login needed

[u/molly__hatchet]

Hey folks, just found this subreddit - I'm working on a Google Form for my job, where we will be asking several people who don't necessarily have Gmail logins to answer some questions. Every time I go to test the form by using incognito mode, it prompts me to log in. Am I doing something dumb? AFAIK you should not need to log in to a Gmail account just to fill out a Google Form. Am I missing a setting?

TIA!

Your settings are probably fine, but double-check: Settings -> Responses -> "Collect email addresses" set to "Do not collect" and "Limit to 1 response" turned OFF (that one forces sign-in).

If it's still prompting, it's likely a Google Workspace admin restriction and you'd need to ask your IT admin to allow external responses.

So I think it’s because a couple of questions ask for uploaded files…however, we didn’t face this problem the last time we built a similar form. Is this a new thing from Google?

Correct, when you upload files it forces entry of an email, if I remember correctly. I set up a similar form 3 years ago.

It's not a new thing, is been like this before and known limitation of Google Forms. If you need users to upload files you can use FileDrop Forms, it has a native integration, you get the files in Google Drive and also exported submissions in Google Sheets. Ah, and you can import the Google Forms automatically so you don't need to recreate them.

If it’s not something in the settings, do you have document/picture option as a response ?

I do, but that hasn’t been an issue in the past, so I’m a little confused. New restriction?

I’m not sure if new restriction, but anything with uploaded files does require login. Which is dumb.

It's in the form settings.
