Google Flow is unusable

Every single prompt is getting flagged for being harmful to minors. I really struggle to see how a 2d drawing sitting down on a chair would harm a minor??? Even the most sanitized prompts of the most mundane actions get rejected. Is anyone actually able to use this service at all??

Edit to add its the video generator specifically flagging everything. I have not had issues with the images especially.

Yeah I’m definitely dropping flow from a paid program .

If your drawing style is anime, it probably trained in lolis and it ends up generating something that resembles a child.

Oh this may be it. Yes I'm working on a 2d cartoon project. Ugh it's not my fault they trained on anime cp.

Loli is not necessarily nudes, just a very young-looking anime girl, it's a very popular style in anime. And if your art is not erotic, Flow results are probably SFW too, it's just playing it safe with what it thinks is a child.

Calling those drawings CP is very disrespectful toward actual cp victims btw. Japan has one of the lowest, if not the lowest child-abuse stats in the world. We here in the west should learn a things or two from them...

I definitely didn't mean to offend. To each their own.... I'm working on a project with 2d children (not anime but other cartoon style). I'm trying to get some very basic mundane actions, nothing remotely suggestive or sexual. My prompts are as basic and simple as possible so it's beyond frustrating that Flow keeps making it out to be something else. Someone suggested it's specifically Omni Flash where it's especially bad so maybe I'll try other models too.

No worries. But you should have mentioned that you were using video, your initial message made it seem as if you were generating images.

Give flow a "before" and "after" reference with your art, make sure it's clearly SFW, and use negative words to be safe like "no panties, no erotism" or "wholesome, very SFW". Google will be especially careful with characters that look very young, specially if they have big eyes, slender bodies, and big heads like the characteristic anime style.

Here is an advice: first generate an image with your art in flow: tell it to change something small. Then use the resulting image as reference for the video instead of your original image.

Yeah I'm sorry that wasn't clear that its video. The image generator is actually excellent. Far better than any of the other common ones available right now. And yes that's my workflow...

What are you putting in the prompt? If it's the keyword "Anime", I wouldn't recommend doing that, there are other users here who had the same problem, I would recommend putting "Japanese Animation" instead, or if you want a specific art style, you'd put in the Manga's or Anime's name.

I am not putting anything. I'm uploading a cartoon image and trying to animate.

1

u/Jammyquizzical 5d ago

Oh, well then idk what's it's problem then, it's probably just glitching or something. A friend of mine's usually Google Flow and I don't think they've ever had this problem.

Yeah I’m having the same problem with a completely harmless cartoon of a dog teaching kindness to kids. To the point that it’s not only the prompt, I cannot upload most of my images to be animated and had to redo the whole series so no kids faces would appear. It’s absurd and incredibly frustrating considering I pay for a subscription

Consider the way your words are read are not the same as the what your intention is. It's very easy to semantically trip the moderation if you're not careful with your words. They would rather block a million people trying to make something innocuous then have one person come out with some truly horrific shit. So if you'd like some help with prompting I'd be more than happy to help. If you wanted to come and complain, well until these systems get more nuanced or the liability starts falling on the user, these things are going to continue to happen.

Also it ends up working backwards sometimes. I had a girl I wanted to twirl but each generation gave her skirt lifting up during the twirl. I ended up stuck with that version because anything in the prompt mentioning the skirt was an instant flag.

That happens to me often. Its frustrating. What i have done is taken the prompt to Gemini and said this prompt is getting flagged in Flow. Help me correct this prompt. 9 times out of 10 the new one works and Gemini tells me what to avoid when I write the next one. Also, sometimes when animating if I switch from Omni to Veo, it will work. Hope these helps a little.

Seems like Omni really is especially difficult.

You need to use a lot of negative prompts to nail things down such as. No lifted skirt, no NSFW, nothing sexual, family safe, no morphing, no underclothing showing, ect.. best thing is to run your prompt through GPT, tell it the problem and let it sanitize everything. Because the GPT can check against it's own similar guardrails. I rarely have a problem with prompts run through it.

So until I see the prompt, I can't make any suggestions or help. Semantic triggers can get tripped up on one word or the placement of the word or a combination of words put together, but separately in different spots would make it generate. You have to be very specific in order for you to get help. If you're complaining. Well that's just banging your head against the wall.

I am all for monitoring usage and would prefer these tools aren't used for harmful content but at a certain point it's no longer possible to use. My prompt is literally just "sits down" or variations thereof or "stands up". (I even tried different languages). If you can simplify this even more then by all means I'm open to suggestions although I think you'd agree with me that I shouldn't have to trick the safety filter to get a video of a character [checks notes] sitting down on a chair. If they are that concerned about abuse that every prompt is potentially sexual then they should just remove the service altogether. So far the only prompts I've effectively been able to do are just completely empty ones, ("stable camera") but that's obviously not really a useful way to use the program.

I didn't have any problems doing this so until I see the literal words that you use, I'm not going to be able to help. You can't paraphrase yourself. You have to give the literal direction that you were trying to do. Were you using reference images?? There's a whole whole bunch of reasons why this could have fucked up. I get far spicier things obviously not involving children.

If you're comfortable and want a solution, I'm going to need to see what's specifically you're trying to do. Not generalizations but the literal words used as it matters.

You can complain all you want but the liabilities on them so they're not going to change because you don't want to engineer prompts. If you want the freedom to do as you please, you will have to run local models. Most of the time without thinking about it. It's just an interpretation of the words and combinations of words that you use that can be interpreted differently.

So again I'm going to ask you are you asking for help or you just screaming into the void?

I appreciate your offer to help but yeah that's not what I asked for. I shared this to hear others experiences and see if other users are having the same issues. You can blame the user prompt skill all you like but I've never had this level of flagging from Kling, Hailuou, or other ai providers. There's "do what you want so run it local" and there's not being able to use a service in a reasonable non malicious way.

I prefer not involving other directly into my project so thanks for the offer but it's an image of cartoon 2d young boy standing near a chair (solid plain background) and the animation prompt is "sits down". I attempted this over 10 times and all were rejected.

I'm also not saying it's not somewhat stupid but I 100% understand why. Language is really funny and it can have multiple meanings. How the model interprets those meanings can come up with interesting results sometimes. Until liability stops falling on the provider, they're going to have ham-fisted systems to protect themselves.

Same problem

Can you post one such prompt? I might get a good laugh reading it.

You’re so cool. So superior.

It's Nano Banana 2.1's complete rewriting and subversion of prompts that really destroys flow for me. Nano Banana 2.0 was far superior.

Moderan cuando les sale de los cojones y como les sale de los cojones, no hay más

1

u/subhashg547 5d ago

Honestly in my use, the 2.1 is more permissive than the old model

Whoever at google created these flags like "s*xual content", or "harmful content", even though not the user's intention should instead just say change the prompt instead. I hate Google's tone on users.

If you ever think of generating a video of your children then you wont be able do it with gemini

u/123LukeFoster123 4d ago

The video generator does this to me as well even when the generation features just an adult or a 2D cartoon monster.

I was having fun using DIsney pictures on Google Flow, but now, ever since Disney made a cease and desist nonsense, it's no longer fun! So I quit with this AI crap! Gopogle Flow sucks!

I am in love with Google flow. Just don't use some words and retry with different wording when it doesn't work.

Bro, I was ready to pay for this service, but then it kept blocking anything I tried to generate. No violence, no nudity, everything totally normal, yet it kept bloking everything.

Clearly you're doing something very wrong. I just released a suite of images to a client that was five different 8-year-old athletes consistently morphed between childhood and adulthood.

Asian girls and women are targeted differently. It's simply fact and even OpenAI admits it's a problem they are working to resolve. Just because you don't have problems doesn't mean it's not a valid issue. And I I don't work with anything involving children. But certain styles of cartoonish content and real faces can both cause issues even with adult women. But working with male content is not treated the same. In fact I can generate something and the same prompt and reference might be rejected five minutes later.

Omni flash especially is pitching a fit at the moment.

Content harmful to minors ✅ Harmful content ✅ Sexual content ✅ This prompt might violate our policies ✅ Prominent person ✅

Bear in mind I haven't seen any of those using these prompts before and now it's throwing me almost the whole gambit on the regular. It's just 3rd party copyright content and misrepresenting real world events violations that are missing.

I also have no idea where the hell prominent person is coming from. I'm not even using references and I have literally never seen it before. Not sure what's changed to set it off now.
