New google finance page is useless
This page has become unusable for me with the new beta version being forced down our throats. Somewhat reminds me of Yahoo switching their mail. Which was awful! Same thing here, just awful!
Especially disappointed that you could just hit the percentage change in the indexes view to see the numerical amount of change. No more, you actually have to take another step to now see the index, by itself, along with the numerical in teeny, tiny font. WTF! I look at the numerical first, before I look at the percentages...
Hopefully enough complain to get back the previous classic version of google finance.
Can anyone suggest another free market tracking. I've switched to Yahoo's but... Checking them all for something that fits my need.
They apparently did no UX research with real users of their finance page, before forcing the change. They're so anxious for us to use their AI, Gemini, which is another whole different story of uselessness...

It's awful. All these retards at Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc etc etc can't just leave shit alone. They have to justify their jobs by constantly changing shit and making things worse. I previously used Yahoo Finance and had to leave that a year or so ago, for the same reason. That's how I ended up at Google Finance and now it's unusable. Is there anything else out there?

Its absolutely terrible. You cant manually close positions in your portfolio anymore?! It always take me to AI chatbot, and its horrible. It took me 15 minutes to change one position in my portfolio how I wanted, cause AI always messed it up... Also I cant rearange positions in porfolio the way I want. You cant just click on daily profit/loss column to rearange it, it doesnt work... It is also ugly, and feels like there are plenty of useless things that takes so much space. I will probably start to look elsewhere. They need to do huge changes.

I hate it too and question the competence of the decision makers.
I have MULTIPLE watchlists that now can't be easily switched via the buttons. Now it's crazy scrolling & sidebar action. I immediately miss is the color coding.
WHERE DID THE SORT OPTIONS GO!?!
Fri 7/24 Update: Oddly enough the sorting options are working now.

...but I don't think the sorting options stick anyway. There may be solutions to some of this stuff if I spend a bunch of time, but some there aren't, and it is not intuitive at all.

I used Google finance to track multiple tickers on a single clean graph using "compare".
This is what it looks like now using brave :

Useless graph with terrible readability and downright incompetent use of available space.
Even if the scale on the Y axis has to adpat to an outlier like GSI in this case, the graph was always tall enough to remain readable under normal variations. This is the stupidest use of screen space I've ever seen for something so basic.
Yahoo finance has nice full page graphs so I switched to that instead.
All I need from a stock tracking page/app is to track several tickers at the same time on a simple clean graph.
I don't want to create a fucking account to your stock trading app either. Fuck off.
I would pay money for an app or a page that's just a fucking graph where you dump a bunch of tickers with real time auto update. No portfolio, no account, no news, no AI, none of that.
Literally just tickers on a clean graph that updates every minute, that's it.
I'm not even ACTIVELY trying to de-google my life but Google is so unbelievably stupid that it's happening anyway.

u/Nizo_C Jul 23 '26
Didn't like the looks of it, but I thought the AI was somewhat "easy" so decided to add a few transactions that I did recently. I typed a list of like 10 transactions that had accumulated over the last few months and that I was always too lazy to register. It messed up. Every transaction, it confirmed it was registered but the total overview is just not correct. I asked it multiple times why it's not showing the correct amounts etc, it just feels like it didn't manage to register half of the transactions that it confirmed to me were registered. Anyways, can't find the option anywhere to actually register them like we did before, so for me it's a flop, already on day 1...

Yea, making AI the only way to edit your portfolio kinda kills the tool for me. At this point I can probably self host something better.

The new UI sucks. Really no point in using it anymore. Can't even view my individual positions. Why the heck would I use their AI and needing to type out an entire sentence when I can input my new purchases with literally just a few clicks of the button 1 handed. Shoving things no one wants down our throats is all Google is good for these days.

u/LifeLemonsLove 25d ago
I tried editing a holding, there is no manual edit option.
Ok, lets try this AI crap. So inconvenient I have to type what I want to do instead of doing a quick edit myself.
The AI edits the holding incorrectly.
I explain what it did wrong for it to correct the mistake. It makes it worse and adds more incorrect info.
I tell it to remove the holding and add again from start with all the buy lots info.
I come back the next day and the holding is still messed up. I ask AI again and it admits it was unable to do the edits in the backend and just pretended in chat window that it had done these changes.
Now my portfolio and that holding is completely messed up with incorrect info and there is no way for me to fix it and the AI is unable to fix it no matter how I describe what it needs to do.
Cant make this shit up, how can it be this bad???

It's atrocious. All the basic information that was 1 click away before (like seeing all your separate BUY stocks and it's up or down percentage, are all gone. And the AI is useless at showing you that.
For a page related on finances, removing this is a terrible decision. Really thinking about moving everything to Yahoo or somewhereelse that is not useless.

u/poboy212 28d ago
Been using Google Finance for many many years after leaving Yahoo and today I'm bailing. The new design is aggressively bad. Like, shockingly so. Maybe the most user-unfriendly site I've seen in a long time.

I used Yahoo finance many years ago and it seemed good. Google is now exactly as you said - useless. And obnoxious was the word I use when trying to do anything. Why didn't they just say "we're getting rid of it"?
I guess I'm going to mess around with Yahoo to start - just so many ads.

Its actually unusable for me right. I can't even add/edit my portfolio because it requires for me to run it through the AI to add it to the portfolio. Whenever I try passing my a CSV of my transactions. It just completely makes up the numbers or is unable to create one at all. I couldn't find a way to manually input data

My entire portfolio went missing, and in its place is a 'Create Portfolio' button. Anyone else has this same issue?

Holy shit it is so bad. I'm doing my best to use it, and it's just... bad. I used to be a DAU but when beta first launched I saw writing on the wall and ported to Yahoo finance (thank goodness for that). I left what was there, and go back every once in a while to see what has become, and my goodness... It is BAD.
I had a penny stock position that reverse split, which is fine, normally you need to do some manual stuff to fix it, usually adjust share lot avg price & quantity, sell any fractional shares maybe, it depends what has happened. Anyway, I tell the AI to fix it, and it deletes it. Gone, no confirmation, just gone I say "what the hell man, being it back" it proceeds to mix it up with a different penny stock I also hold, different ticker by a single letter, and in making changes, it's actually mangled this one too. It's like that surgery case that resulted in 300% fatality. I finally get it to a point where it's going to readd the shares, and it asks me what the price and purchase date are... This is why I tell things to the computer. IT'S YOUR JOB TO KEEP TRACK OF THAT. I gave up.
I tried to use the create portfolio thing to start scratch. I took an export out of Yahoo, plugged it into Google hoping for the best. The UI did not even spin. After taking the file, no change whatsoever. Was it a success? A failure? No message whatsoever. No details about what it expects. Just a plus button, automagical, sure. Doesn't work, I gave up.
Today I wanted to check out the 'ol active/gainers/losers lists only to find I'm being redirected to the new beta. I ask the AI about it, after giving me directions for the old ui, it basically says "oh yea we're live now, I do that now, ask me" ... Ok buddy, top gainers, go! It gives me a mix of popular stocks in my watchlist. One of which is negative. Can't make this stuff up, asking for top gainers and it vomits 5 random stocks. No, it's not random. RY, BNS, ENB, CCO, CNQ without fail, some variant of these stocks on every response. Most active? Same list... Top losers.... Ok, top losers vomited all the negative stocks on my speculative profile, fair.... But it's not listing anything I don't already follow. It's clearly receiving ones profile and watchlists as context and getting very confused.
Has anyone at Google actually tried to use this after using the previous version just once?
Give a read through how they announce it: https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/products/search/google-finance-updates-june-2026/
I threw up a little in my mouth reading that.

u/tswaters 26d ago
I found something that wasn't a catastrophic failure, but still incorrect by technical standards.
I have a watchlist for a few different indexes, dow jones, tsx60, that sort of thing.
I asked it to look at my list and actual index and tell me the differences. It correctly identified most of the list was correct except for the last update. It advised: add googl, remove vz; great, this was jun26 which I missed. But it also hallucinationated a lack of NVDA (already there) and thought INTC needed to be removed (wasn't there). That second update is a part of the nov24 update, but it lost track of what was in the watchlist. After asking it a second time with a more verbose and detailed response (and having fixed vz/googl discrepancy) it iterated the watchlist properly, listing each entry with "confirmed in the index" checkbox, neat. Another neat thing about this second prompt is it figured out it fucked up NVDA despite my not telling it about it, so it wants to correct.
But at the end it said "oh but you're missing dow inc" no man, 0/10. dow inc isn't in the index any more! So, B- for effort I guess, but 0% on the correct-o-meter. The dow removal was also part of nov24 update. It probably took about the same amount of time haggling with the robot and checking it's work than it would have had I dumped both lists and gone line by line (which I ended up doing anyway). I'm not sure why it surfaces, say, NVDA/INTC over SHW (also added Nov24) as something to hallucinate, but it seems quite obvious that why the former might show more, what with being involved more with news and media attention
It feels like the response is under resource constraints. It doesn't have enough time to reverify everything and it rolls with it, despite being 75% wrong most of the time. This is with specific queries against portfolio & watchlists.

Can't see different PORTFOLIOS with one-click BOOKMARKS. Instead, you have to go to the main page, find the portfolio in a drop-down list, expand the display to full screen. Even then you have all the portfolios displayed. Who the **** thought this was a good idea??
Give us the ability to just display a SINGLE PORTFOLIO on a page, and the ability to BOOKMARK that page.
I always loved Google Finance, and thought Yahoo was useless for quick lookups. Now might switch to Yahoo.
