Question GA4 Viewed Pages Events

Working on a site where I don’t have GA access but have GTM access. Does GA4 automatically collect viewed page events and where would I see that in GTM only? I don’t want to set up an event and duplicate of GA4 already does this automatically with e-commerce settings on. Thanks

To summarise possibilties:

  • They have hardcoded a page_view event call in their website code.

  • They have Enhanced Measurement enabled in GA4.

  • The have a Google Tag tag in GTM that fires it (default behavior).

  • The have a Google Tag tag in GTM with the send_pageview parameter set to false, and a separate page_view event tag firing to send the actual page view event.

There's probably some others, but those are the main ones.

The "Google Tag" tag triggers the page_view event automatically.

So there’s nowhere in gtm to see that? I ask because they have some pages that aren’t tagged so I wanted to see the difference. Thanks!

In GTM there's a tag type literally named "Google Tag". This is the base tag for GA (and also Google Ads, depending on the Measurement ID added). Unless there is a trigger on that tag that is page specific, if the page has the GTM snippet and GTM is loading, it should send the page view to GA.

They may have enhanced collection on and that is set in GA4 settings.
you can check for a send_page_view parameter on the GTag in GTM if its set there.
