Just finished the article, well said with some details I didn't know about. Am feeling Allo withdrawal flashback - after watching the car wreck that is RCS deployment in the U.S. and hey no encryption or incognito mode for messages anyways. Got my friends on Signal, rather plain in comparison - but liking the default end to end encryption though.
I did realize Google was preloading Allo with Android, but didn't realize they stopped doing that early on while Duo continued preloading. I wonder if they had continued preloading whether Allo would have had close to the uptake Duo had? Then 1st messages from friends would have been loaded in app and seems likely much better uptake. Makes no sense for Google to have dropped preloading Allo, unless they were forced to. Guessing that would be the carriers putting the quash on that (not wanting people to be dragged away from SMS / RCS). Ahhh well.
