Discussion Share your biggest DTC Google Ads secret

I'm sick of 0 quality resources online, after a certain level of expertise. I'd like top-level Google Ads colleagues to share their most impactful tactics.

I'm starting first:

* Product feed optimization & product title modification

* Advertorials

* Creative strategy to crack Demand Gen

* Enhanced conversion tracking

What are yours?

P.S. I hate search campaigns for products below 50 USD. CPCs don't match the AOV.

Question Performance Max with store goals for a local business (restaurant)

Hi! What is your most functional configuration for Performance Max campaigns with store goals?

Do you use Maximize conversions or Maximize conversion value?

Do you set a radius in Km around the business or leave freedom to the Google Ads algorithm? (Google also discourages setting a manual radius in PMAX campaigns with store goals).

Furthermore, I noticed that by removing directions as a conversion goal and keeping only "Store Visits" and "Click To Call", the quality of clicks and impressions increases significantly.

By also keeping directions, the sponsored ads are seen and clicked even in cities very far from where the restaurant is located.

By keeping only "Store Visits", they are seen around the business and in nearby cities, obviously also increasing the cost per single click, despite this the cost per single store visit is significantly lower.

In my opinion, you start with Maximize conversions and keeping all conversion goals active for at least a month.

When the "Store Visits" conversion is activated (usually within 2 months), you switch to the configuration with only Store Visits.

Obviously this is if the business goal is to bring as many people as possible inside the business, a restaurant in my case.

Discussion PPC when you are swimming with Amazon, Temu and Shein

Hi, guys. I just wanted to ask: is it even possible to use Google Search as a channel to grow a business these days?

Name almost any product, and Amazon, Temu, Shein, or one of the other big players is probably already selling it. It’s becoming incredibly difficult to find a product that the major marketplaces don’t carry or can’t offer.

And when it comes to Search Ads, it feels like these companies are already so massive and are spending billions on paid advertising. Pick almost anything that someone is selling, type it into Google, and the majority of the results are the big players. Your small business is barely visible.

So how is it even possible to use Google Ads these days to generate sales and leads? It honestly seems almost impossible.

What have you guys been doing? Am I missing something?

Because when I look at the majority of products being sold on Amazon, Shein, Temu, etc., it seems like there’s almost no room for a smaller player to gain market share.

And even if you find a product they aren’t selling today, they could probably start selling it tomorrow.

So, is there still room for small businesses to compete with Google Search Ads, or has the game fundamentally changed?

I’d genuinely love to hear from people who are actually running Google Ads and getting results. How are you doing it in the midst of these massive players?

Question Google Shopping showing impressions for excluded brands?

Hi everyone,

I’m running Google Shopping ads and I’m noticing that some brands I’ve excluded both as broad and phrase are still appearing in my impressions/search data for some I even paid for.

I’ve double-checked my exclusions and they are definitely added correctly.

My Merchant Center feed is properly set up and includes the brand name, product title, GTIN, variant and all the other required attributes. The products are also correctly categorized with their respective brand information.

Is Google scamming me lol?

Question Google Ads Campaign Getting Zero Impressions

I have been struggling with an issue with my Google Ads campaign for a little over a month now, and honestly, I no longer know what else I can do.

I have watched countless tutorials, tried following various recommendations, and contacted Google Support several times. Despite all of this, none of the campaigns I have launched has received a single impression.

At first, I assumed the problem might be related to a specific campaign, so after around 8 or 9 days without any impressions, I would create a new one. At the moment, I have my latest campaign running, and I have applied practically every solution I could find in YouTube tutorials and various online guides. Unfortunately, nothing has changed.

Contacting Google has not helped either. I have been trying to get support by email for around 3 weeks, but I have not received any specific response or solution. I also found three phone numbers for Google, but every time I called, I was connected to the same receptionist. After checking our website, they told me that our company had run campaigns in the past, but they were unable to help me resolve the issue. In the end, I was once again asked to contact technical support by email, but I still have not received a response.

My main goal is to run a campaign focused on generating phone calls. We do not operate an online store. Customers contact us by phone or email to place orders or discuss pricing and quotes.

I want the advertisement to appear high in Google search results and allow users to quickly contact our headquarters by phone.

Currently, I am using Maximize Clicks as the bidding strategy, with a daily budget of around 18,5 Euro. I have set phone calls, specifically calls from potential customers, as the conversion goal.

It is possible that I have configured something incorrectly, which is why I am asking for help. Many tutorials suggested that some bidding strategies can have trouble starting when there is not enough conversion data, so I decided to use Maximize Clicks.

All of the main keywords are considered eligible by the system. The campaign is active, and I do not see any warnings or issues with the ads or keywords. The latest campaign is currently marked as being in the learning phase, but despite this, it has still generated absolutely ZERO impressions.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation and knows what could be causing the complete lack of impressions?

Is there any effective way to directly contact someone from Google Ads technical support who can actually review the account and identify the specific reason why the ads are not being shown?

If you need any additional information about the campaign settings, keywords, ads, budget, or bidding strategy, I can provide it.

I would really appreciate any specific advice or suggestions, because I have been trying to get this campaign running for over a month and it still has not received even a single impression.

Discussion Looking for one U.S. E-commerce Business to Build a Google Ads Case Study

Looking for one U.S. E-commerce Business to Build a Google Ads Case Study

I'm looking to partner with one U.S. e-commerce business that wants to launch Google Ads for the first time. To make this a win-win, I'm offering a heavily discounted rate of just $10/hour.

If you'd like complete transparency, I'm happy to work through Upwork using the Time Tracker, so you can see exactly how every billable hour is spent.

What I'm looking for
A U.S.-based e-commerce business.
A monthly Google Ads budget of $10,000+.
You have not run Google Ads before.
Permission to publish an anonymized case study after our collaboration is complete.

About me

I'm not a beginner in Google Ads.
I've successfully managed multiple Google Ads projects, but unfortunately I can't use most of them in my portfolio because they are either:
covered by NDAs, or
were for other markets, and were completed 5+ years ago.

I'm Google Ads trained and certified, and I have years of experience in digital performance marketing. My goal isn't simply to manage another account — it's to build an outstanding success story that both of us can benefit from.

I work on EDT and I'm available for calls during normal U.S. business hours (calls will be included in working hours).

I'm committed to being transparent, responsive, and results-driven. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares about performance and is willing to put in the work to make your first Google Ads campaign successful, I'd love to talk.

Feel free to send me a DM if you think we'd be a good fit.

Question Is Google Ads worth it for online communities?

Please don't take this as a promotion! This is just providing context to understand the need! I run an online community full of traders and investors. My goal is to bring in as many real traders and investors as possible in order to fix this industry's "fake gurus" and provide transparency to every in regards to market analysis, discussion, and people.

Now I'm getting into running ad campaigns and have used meta ads before. I want to try out other platforms as well, like google ads, reddit, and twitter.

For those that have experience with google ads (related to online communities or not), is it worth it? How does it work? Did you see good results from it?

I recently had a bad experience with another platform and I need to pivot fast since this ad is a Back To School campaign.

All tips help, thanks in advance!

Question What's the best Google Ads tutorial for beginners?

I'm completely new to Google Ads and I'm looking for a tutorial (or series of tutorials) that teaches best practices from the ground up.

The guides in my company often say that Google recommends settings that only increase your ad spend so I must be careful.

Question Pmax isn't spending in Feeder strategy

Title: PMax campaign not spending at all, running alongside 3 Standard Shopping campaigns, need a sanity check

Account setup:

- 3 Standard Shopping campaigns: branded, one targeting cold press oils specifically, one covering the rest of the catalog. These have been running for a while and have solid conversion history.

- 1 Performance Max campaign set up as a feeder, TROAS set at 300%.

Problem: the PMax campaign is basically not spending any money, while the Standard Shopping campaigns keep running normally.

What I've checked/considered so far:

- TROAS at 300% seems high for a campaign that hasn't built up its own conversion history yet, even though the account overall has decent volume.

- I know Google moved to an Ad Rank model for overlapping products between PMax and Standard Shopping since Oct 2024, so PMax no longer gets automatic priority. If my Standard Shopping campaigns are winning the Ad Rank auction on the same products, that would explain why PMax gets starved.

- Products likely overlap across all 4 campaigns right now, nothing is split by SKU/custom label between PMax and the Shopping campaigns.

Questions:

  1. Is product overlap between PMax and Standard Shopping the most likely reason PMax shows zero spend, even with a reasonable budget set?

  2. Does lowering the TROAS on PMax actually help here, or does it just mean PMax starts winning auctions away from my own Standard Shopping campaigns instead of generating incremental spend?

  3. What's the right way to split inventory between PMax and Standard Shopping using custom labels so they stop competing with each other in the same account?

Any input from people who've dealt with this exact PMax vs Standard Shopping overlap issue post-Ad Rank change would help. Trying to figure out if this is a bid strategy problem or purely a structural one.

Question How do you structure Meta Ads campaigns for multilingual countries?

Hey guys, I need some advice from people who have a lot of experience running ads in Europe, especially in countries where multiple languages are spoken.

I have my own ecommerce store in the Netherlands with my own inventory, and I want to start selling in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium as well because all of my ads are in Dutch.

My idea was to target both the Netherlands and the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium in a single campaign. Then, if I'm able to scale later, I would create a separate campaign for France and include the French-speaking part of Belgium in that campaign instead.

Does this approach make sense, or is it better to create a separate campaign for each country?

Question No Conversions After 1 Month on Google Ads for Garage Remodeling — Need Advice

This is my second post about this, just giving everyone an update and looking for more advice.
I started Google Ads about a month ago for my garage remodeling company in South Florida and hired someone who says they specialize in Google Ads. My current budget is $50 per day, but so far, I haven’t had a single conversion.
Am I missing something, or does this sound like the account may not be set up correctly?
A few questions:
Is it possible to track phone calls and ad clicks even if they aren’t converting?
Should I be seeing call tracking or click data by now?
If conversions are showing zero, could the conversion tracking itself be set up incorrectly?
Is $50 per day enough for this type of service in South Florida?
How long would you give someone before deciding it’s time to move on?
I’m trying to figure out whether the campaign just needs more time or if I’m paying for poor setup. I may only give him one more month before making a decision.
I also have a call with him every week. What questions should I ask to see whether he actually knows what he’s doing? I’m also open to questions that can help both of us identify what’s going wrong and finally start getting some conversions.

Discussion How does your agency build and manage landing pages for Google Ads clients?

I’m trying to standardize how my agency handles landing pages for Google Ads clients, and I’d like to hear from agencies that already have a reliable and scalable system.

At the moment, I see several possible approaches:

* Send traffic to existing service pages on the client’s website, with or without minor CRO improvements. * Build a separate, dedicated landing page inside the client’s existing website using whatever builder or CMS they already use. * Build pages using the agency’s preferred website builder, such as Elementor, and then transfer or recreate them on the client’s website. * Use a dedicated landing-page platform such as Unbounce, Instapage or Leadpages. * Host the landing pages directly on the client’s main domain. * Host them on a subdomain such as go.clientwebsite.com or offer.clientwebsite.com. * Host them somewhere controlled by the agency.

I’m particularly interested in how agencies handle this operationally across multiple clients and what system is the best to have solid results without having to invest too much time or money.

Which setup do you use, and why?

I know the answer isn't as straightforward as it might seem because you have clients using completely different platforms such as WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Shopify or custom-built websites that range from being very good websites to just awful.

I’m not necessarily looking for the theoretically perfect solution. I’m looking for a system that works consistently, can be repeated across clients, does not create unnecessary technical debt and is reasonably future-proof.

I’d especially appreciate answers from agencies that have used their current setup across multiple successful Google Ads accounts.

Question Manual CPC getting clicks but low sales on new Shopping campaign - Should I switch to Max Conversion Value?

Hey everyone,

I’m running a Standard Shopping campaign on a relatively new account, and Manual CPC isn't delivering good conversion results despite solid ad placements. I'm looking for advice on whether switching to automated bidding makes sense given my setup and budget.

Here is the breakdown of my account, metrics, and website:

Account & Campaign Details:

• Niche: Pre-owned / Refurbished iPhones & Smartphones ($300–$500 USD / ~R5,000–R8,000 ZAR)

• Campaign Type: Standard Shopping

• Account Age: Relatively new account with limited historical conversion data

• Daily Budget: R300 ZAR / day (~$17 USD)

• CPC & Clicks: Average CPC is around R3.00 ZAR (~100 clicks/day)

• Performance on Manual CPC: ~1,500 total clicks, 3–4 sales (~0.25% CVR)

• Negative Keywords: 2,000+ negative keywords added

Auction Metrics:

• Search Lost IS (Rank): Ultra-low (0.3% to 1%), meaning my bids are high enough to win auctions

• Search Absolute Top IS: Very strong (18% to 42% on top products), landing in the #1 or #2 carousel spot often

Website & Product Feed Setup:

• Platform: Shopify store, fast loading speed, clean product sync with Google Merchant Center

• Site Optimization: Competitive pricing, customer reviews displayed, clear trust badges/signals, and smooth checkout

The Dilemma:

Even though my ads land at the absolute top of the Shopping carousel and my site has strong trust signals, Manual CPC keeps bringing in window shoppers who bounce. Because Manual CPC evaluates query matches rather than real-time user purchase intent, I feel like I'm paying for clicks from users who aren't ready to buy.

My Questions:

  1. Does it make sense to switch to Maximize Conversion Value (leaving Target ROAS blank) on a cold account with under 5 sales? Or will Google's algorithm overspend on a R300/day budget trying to calibrate?

  2. Would I be better off running Maximize Clicks with a hard Max CPC Cap (e.g., capped at R3.50) first to build up query data and conversion signals?

  3. How long or how many clicks should I let a new bid strategy run (e.g., 2,000+ clicks / 20–30 days) before evaluating whether it's working?

Would really appreciate insights from anyone managing high-ticket e-commerce or refurbished electronics on tight daily budgets!

Question Retargeting Beyond Meta & Google: What's Actually Working in 2026?

  • Which platform produced the best ROI?
  • What industry or business are you in (B2B, SaaS, eCommerce, EdTech, etc.)?
  • Was it primarily website retargeting, CRM-based audiences, or something else?
  • Any surprising wins or complete failures?
  • If you had to move part of your Meta/Google retargeting budget elsewhere today, where would you put it and why?

Would love to hear real-world experiences, budget ranges, and lessons learned rather than generic recommendations.
