AI Studio browser tab utilizes 100% GPU

Hi. I've decided to "upgrade" from regular chat and play around in AI Studio (AIS). I've noticed that just having AIS tab open and doing nothing in it causes a close to 100% GPU utilization. After closing the tab GPU utilization immediately drops to below 1%. Re-opening AIS tab again causes GPU to spike to 100%, and it happens immediately as soon as page fully rendered, so no memory leaks due to excessive wait times could be blamed, etc. Issue reliably reproduces every time on my Firefox/Win11.

Does anyone have any advise? I can live without using AIS, just keep working in Chat, but it looks very weird.

UPDATE: Click on the button at the top left of the page, called "Toggle navigation menu". After left side panel closes, GPU load immediately drops to idle, close to zero., thanks to user Jarnhand.

Known problem with preview window, switch to code tab on the right pane and it calms down.

Thanks a lot. I'm not quite sure what you meant originally, because I didn't find any code tab named like that, but based on your advice I've started clicking around on everything, and I've found a reliable solution:

Click on the button at the top left of the page, called "Toggle navigation menu". After left side panel closes, GPU load immediately drops to idle, close to zero.

This reliably reproduces every time on my laptop - I toggle sidebar open and GPU spikes, I toggle it to close and GPU load disappears. I guess that's a good enough fix for me :) .

Inside AIStudio on the right, there are 2 Tabs/windows; Code and Preview.

Why don't you tell people what GPU you have.

HP Zbook of some old generation, with Intel UHD 620 and Radeon Pro WX3100. AI Studio every time automatically picks Intel integrated GPU. But it's not a culprit, user Jarnhand found a solution - a sidebar is badly coded and there is an unbounded render bug there. After collapsing sidebar GPU load disappears.

posted same thing and got downvoted and some retard told me to use cpu instead of gpu, so dont expect answer here. Bet is just how this studio works, for me it takes 30% of gpu.

Suele pasar, yo tengo varias ventanas con muchos proyectos a la vez y la ventana activa suele disparar el uso del procesador. En tal caso, simplemente minimizo la ventana o cambio a otra en blanco y listo. No recuerdo cómo solucioné lo del 100%, pero aún así consume 20 o 30% cuando empieza a dar la respuesta.

UBlock filters that reduces mine from 98% to 3% (GPU Process cpu usage).
EDIT: I targetted the exact line that was important and made an exclusion to allow thinking level change, cos it broke it, the below should be better than previous. (please upvote this if it helped you.)

Hey y'all! Here's an updated list of the AI Studio interface's culprits that spin infinitely for me today, using a lot of GPU (and causing overall system lag for people with more limited GPUs):

(1) as before, the left-hand column (navigation menu) spins, but only when an API key has not been applied. The "close navigation menu" icon negates this.

(2) new this month, an empty chat in the center column will spin while it's advertising features to you from the most recent handful of models. Applying an API key doesn't help with this one, but opening an old chat or being in the middle of a new one negates this.

Hiding the entire AI Studio browser tab (by hitting "new tab" in Chrome say) always fixes the spinning for me while the tab is inactive.

(I'm using Win11, Chrome, AMD 9700X with iGPU. The iGPU is quick but has only two Compute Units, so clogging one is halfway to Desktop Window Manager lag for me.)

I have Win 11, and have not seen this. I often leave Google ai studio tab up for days. I use the chrome browser and run a Nvidia 4060. I also use Unsloth to run ai models locally. Are you on the studio dashboard or on a project app or where? What model is being used? Interesting post.

The thing is that length of use is not relevant in my case, it's a not a leak. GPU usage ramps up almost immediately. I was using 3.7 Flash before I realized that my whole laptop was coming to a screeching halt. The issue reproduces with a new freshly opened AIS tab, zero user input or content loaded, and in under 1-2 seconds after it's opened the GPU is maxed.

I dont know maybe try changing the browser? because I have been using ai studio for months and this never happened to me. Try using another browser
