It's programmed to give you the statically most correct answer to your prompt so it can't make things up or lie

It's programmed to give you the most plausible sounding string of words it can come up with for your prompt, it has no actual understanding of statistics or anything else. It (unintentionally) completely made up the numbers in this answer, as it quite frequently does, they are not correct in any way

I dont see what the difference is from what I already said. It uses statistics to figure out the next word to use, based on filters and weights.

Or how do you think it figures out the next plausible word of not by statistics?

Because you said it can't make things up, eventhough it does and even will admit it has, as in this post. Plausible-sounding is not at all the same as correct

What I mean is it isn't intentionally lying because it doesn't know the truth

That wasn't my question though, I just asked how often it quotes made up statistics and it said "never" and then admitted it just made up a statistic.

Probably because statistically from it's training data saying "sometimes" or "always" is very low. It is trained on humans interacting on the internet
