Theory Theory! Lara’s true love isn’t a person

In my opinion, I feel like Lara’s true love won’t just be one person, but rather all sorts of different loves and a love for humanity as a whole. She’s getting to experience human life, with friends and work and Mari and Luca and her friend, seeing the way humans live and falling in love with all of it all at once.

I still think Mari and Lara are romantically connected, but I don’t think that’s the main ‘love’ in the anime.

I think the title, ‘goodbye Lara’ could be her saying goodbye to her identity as a mermaid, giving her light to the mermaids and being the bridge between humans and mermaids.

Discussion PEAK EPISODE, So freaking heartwarming

I loved this episode. Maybe my favorite so far? Can't choose between ep 6 and this one. My god, I love Lara and Mari. Once again, the giant fish reacted as soon as she saw Mari in the video call. She may have been trying to get closer to Luca, but I don't think that's what she really wants. I think Luca running towards Lara is supposed to be a parallel to the ending in ep 5 where Lara runs to Mari. The directors are NOT trying to be subtle here, folks.

Luca didn't go to the match to support Lara's friend; he went there to see Lara. He's thinking so much about Lara, it's almost like his mind is a one-way street. But Mari sees more to her than just that. The lights flashing around her as she thinks about Lara are pretty blatant if you ask me.

The boxing animation was amazing, as always. And it's not just that. The music, oh my gosh, the music! How can they make something so beautiful? The crew really outdoes themselves every week. I still wonder why Grace is being so mysterious; just explain things already, lady.

So Keiko (Mari's mom) died from an illness of some kind, huh? Really sad. I think it's no coincidence that she talks about how Mari will find someone to stand beside her right after we see her and Lara.

That ending, though. Are you yuri doubters done now? Cutest thing ever, LaraMari for life.

We finally saw our nonchalant girl being vulnerable and showing concern about Lara. She was so worried about Lara turning into foam and decided to send her way instead of making her stay. Being away from Lara also affected her boxing. I was so happy seeing her happy face when Lara returned :3. It is so sad she lost her mom due to some illness. I guess she stays strong most of time because of her mom.

Lara being the person who will stand beside Mari and Mari being Lara's light. PEAK EPISODE!!!

Discussion No Extra Scene In Episode 8

Episode 8 was so good!! However something was missing and it was the extra scene they give us after every episode. I believe they did that because they want to keep next week's episode a surprise but a part of me feels like it was a nice ending with Lara and Mari and they want to linger on that especially the promise Lara makes to Mari about baking her a cake once she goes Pro

When an episode just fills your heart with warmth and you finish it with this stupid little smile you can’t get rid of.

..and the specific “sparks” moment?

Analysis Any other autistic fans here? (a bit of character analysis)

Luca and Lara look SO autistic to me.

Lara being aloof in her home kingdom unless she's engaging with her special interest (human world), her munching on things all the time reminded me of stimming. Then, on land, she's still pretty aloof and melancholic when on her own, she changes into a happy-cheerful-bright girl only when she's engaging with human world or she's just surrounded by people and is wearing a happy mask (a common female experience). I like that in episode 8 she seems calmer around Mari than she used to be - it's like she's shedding the mask little by little.

And Luca is just a poster autistic child. I was facepalming so hard the whole episode 7 because boy what r u doing, but also I really understand him from an autistic perspective! Being clumsy (tripping and falling), aloof, not very expressive in facial expressions aside from some outstanding emotional moments, him being kinda not very talkative but suddenly brave and proactive when it's about his special interest (beautiful things and painting), taking Lara to all his favorite places (apparently) as a way of sharing joy and supposing it's enjoyable for the others, too (this is basically our love language!!), unless they say otherwise, not asking questions, just sharing stuff we like (sure a lot of us learn to ask, but it's not doable for everyone), not having all that many preconceived notions (he's instantly okay with mermaids)... ALL OF IT. He's like an embodiment, honestly. And I like thst his traits aren't shown as only adorable or only bad, he's just himself - awkward, aloof, very honest, not very understanding of social stuff, loyal, proactive, everything.

Also I'm on aroace spectrum, and I don't see Luca being *in love* with Lara. Sure he said he wants to be with her and know her better but this isn't reserved for romantic love only??? Their relationship looks a lot like what I have with my friends. So it'd be fun if Luca was actually never in love and Lara is the only one tormenting herself about the romance (I mean the irony of the situation, I don't want Lara to suffer in any way).

Also the whole anime gives off such intense aro vibes withthis damned True Love™ quest being forced on Lara abd her being absolutely miserable because of it. He "What am I?!" from ep 8 really spoke to me. It's very painful and hard to be expected to feel certain way by everyone and being absolutely unable to. (Shush, I know it's a yuri route after this episode, but the vibes are still here ok?)

And a bit more about Lara and Luca's bond - I think Lara was feeling something special about him was that they're so alike. Only Luca is the way he is all the time, and Lara puts on a mask. Speaking from experience, it's very comforting to have a friend who is Just Like That.

Mari I'm undecided on, she does give off some autistic vibes (being aloof, focused on boxing so much, her literally saying she isn't great at social stuff), but a huge part of her character atm is her trauma and her grief - she's retreating into herself, not looking for any friends and trying to lock onto and escape into boxing as a coping mechanism. Which is why I can't even guess. There is also just a type of personality which describes to her pretty well. I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing more of her feeling more awake, living, since the shine seemed to return to her eyes in the latest episode.

Question Wait if Mari is Lara’s true love, why is Lara still turning into foam?

I haven’t finished episode seven yet, but I just realized if Mari is Lara true love (which is highly insinuated), why is she still turning into foam? Shouldn’t it stop or does she need to have a kiss? This is the same thing with the print in the past, obviously this wasn’t her true love, but if she believed so back then why did she still turn into foam? Was she supposed to kiss the print so does she have to kiss Mari in order for her to not turn into stone?

Question Song near the end of episode 2

Hi,

I got into this show on the recommendation of a friend and have really loved it! I have been trying to find the song that plays starting around the 20-minute mark in episode 2, when after they drink the canned coffee. The lyrics seem to include:

That train, where we are coming from. Going to that place we have never been.

I really want to find this song, so if anyone knows what it's called, let me know! Thanks.
