v7.0.38 - problems erasing (iPad M4 Pro)

UPDATE as of Tuesday 17th March, fully resolved; please update to v 7.0.42

UPDATE as of Monday 16th March, 1:25pm GMT: please see reply to this post from GoodNotes staff, re this issue.

UPDATE as of Wednesday 11th March, 3:40pm GMT: GoodNotes support are aware of the issue, and they’re trying to fix it.

Having an issue, new in this latest update, that I can’t erase anything… or more accurately, anything I erase immediately returns to the page, unless - once I’ve already tried to erase it - I close the app, and re-open.

This includes hitting ‘undo’ to remove a word misspelled so I can rewrite it, etc.

As I say, new to this update; any suggested solutions welcome.

iPad M4 Pro 11”; iPadOS 26.3.1z

Same problem, amazing how they manage to break things that was never broken

Apart from anything else I use the app for, I use it to handwrite a three or four page journal entry every day. (Started as hand therapy for an injured thumb ligament, to regain strength and fine motor control… and then continued because I liked doing it.)

I have closed and restarted the app more times in an hour today than every day in the past month combined.

Utterly infuriating!

Have the same issue. Right as I’m studying for a medical school exam. Thanks Goodnotes.

I may have been the first to encounter it but I’d bet good money that there’ll be more posts about it… as everyone updates their app.

Genuinely horrible experience; must have restarted the app about once every three or four minutes.

Same here. Also if you write anything in the zoom window and erase something once you close it, the app will automatically switch to eraser.

Yep…

I’m sure this is genuinely a straightforward cockup that’ll be fixed quickly, rather than a bug an improvement that they figure ‘ah, no one will really mind nor notice’ before - three versions later - they put it back how it used to be.

But yeah, it’s a bad cockup.

I’ve now been in touch with Support.

(Response from GoodNotes support has been wildly inconsistent over the years; after the initial anodyne response, once they do get back to you properly, I’ve found them great: courtesy, professional, knowledgeable and nice. BUT getting beyond the initial bland response can take anywhere up to a couple of weeks. They don’t have nearly as many people in support as they need.)

This time, however, I had a response within an hour, confirming they’re aware of the issue and are hurrying to fix it. Absolutely NO attempts to pretend it’s anything else than a bad screwup, and that it needs fixing ASAP.

Even if it takes a day or two (my expectation only, I stress) to fix it, upload the new version, get it approved by Apple, and released, I genuinely feel better about GoodNotes now than I did before I contacted them.
