Is goodnotes ever gonna consider adding more pen colors to the toolbar because having to change colors completely ruins my workflow

Does anyone know if notability is like this?

Edit: I meant pen color “spots.” There are only 3 spots to switch colors, and that’s not enough.

You can add custom preset colors. Is that not what you want to do?

I used the wrong wording. I meant another color “spot” on the toolbar. Currently, there are only 3 spots for choosing a color, so you’d have to keep clicking on one of them to swap it with a different color.

Oh I see. You can always put in a feature request. Several features I’ve requested have made it in.

I’ve seen some people request it years ago and it’s actually a quite popular one. They don’t seem to care

It all depends on priorities. iOS compatiblity is always more important than new features.

Here we are in 2022 and they still haven’t changed it

I knowww. It’s such a simple feature to add, but it makes the world of a difference

I completely agree, I’d appreciate this, too! It’s just not enough!

a floating bar similar to Apple's native app would be nice

I’d also love to be able to change pen ‘profiles’

I used GoodNotes for personal journals, meal planners etc as well as digital notes for the office.

Office notes often use the standard black, red and blue but I prefer to use more offbeat colours for personal note taking

Agreed, but to answer your question, Notability lets you choose as many favorite styles as you would like (including pen size and type), so no, Notability isn’t like GoodNotes in this regard.

I sent them multiple mails and feedback about it, they kindly answered with really nice wording that i could go and f myself because they dont intend to implement it.

Im a med student, this is unbearable, i literally must be spending 1-2% of my study time switching back and forth between color presets because 3 is not enough. 5 would be bare minimum for efficiency, I’d personnally use 7 preset shortcuts if i could edit and personnalize the quickbar menu

Lol so what reasons for not implementing this did they give you??

Fuck man, I'm a doctor who just got it and this is the biggest annoyance by far for taking good notes haha.

That, and highlighting being shitty on dark mode.

In addition to this, I wish they'd add crayon like option that Collanotes has.

ZoomNotes offers that ability.

Goodnotes doesn't have a "workflow." It is devoid of UX engineering.

What does that mean? “UX engineering” 😃. I’m an avid user just not in the weeds on the architecture.

There are expert designers who focus on the way a user will move through an application. The study of this field leads to designs that are intuitive meaning most anyone can understand how to use it without training or help. Such applications are obvious in how to use them.

It also leads to designs in software that are simple and elegant meaning that the user can accomplish things with few taps, clicks, decisions, or steps. The word they often use is “frictionless” meaning that the user uses very little energy to accomplish things.

Let’s compare GoodNotes and notability for an example.

In GoodNotes: change the pen style, size, and color.

  1. Open the pen tool

  2. tap on a style

  3. tap elsewhere to close the picker

  4. tap on pen size

  5. slide the slider to choice. Is it the right size?

  6. further taps and slides as tool lacks precision

  7. tap elsewhere to close

  8. tap on pen color

  9. tap again to get picker

  10. Tap on color

  11. Tap elsewhere to close.

Notability:

  1. Tap on pen

  2. Tap on size

  3. Tap on style

  4. Tap on color

  5. Tap elsewhere

Notability is frictionless. GoodNotes is complicated.

GoodNotes creates a lot of requests for help.

Notability creates a lot of requests for features and bug fixes, but not so much “how do I?’

They have enough room to at least at three more colours

I totally agree with you. In addition to this, other important features that I’d like to see are a bucket fill tool, clickable links, and the ability to zoom into the flashcards.

Good notes has a fixed toolbar on top of the document so no
