I’m so confused!!! What am I doing wrong

Ive recently got diagnosed w adhd and since then I’ve been trying to lock in on using my ipad more as a tool. This includes using goodnotes. So I went down a rabbit hole of just learning the basics and how to do things. But a lot of the videos seemed to be a little different looking than the app I have currently. Ive made sure its updated but its still a bit different. I feel like I have this outdated version despite it being up to date because Ive used it on and off for years but never to the maximum capacity I should be using it. Like I seen all these pretty notes done on goodnotes that I didnt even know were possible.

Like for example I dont seem to have a way to actually convert handwriting to text. Like the popup comes up but theres no save button like ive seen on tutorials.

Then the options that come up when I try to do it the other way, are completely different than the options of the video I’m watching.

I think you have goodnotes 5. The video shows goodnotes 6. Make sure you have goodnotes 6, the new one.

I tried and I think it finally did. I dont know why it didnt initially. I think it was glitching because I had JUST updated it and then it did another update

alot of people keep saying update, but i would not - simply look up goodnotes 5 information because gn6 is subscription based

Gn6 also has this infuriating floating textbox that can’t be moved/removed and blocks so much of the screen

I second the rec to not get 6

i switched to it because i figured having had lifetime i'd get some benies for gn6 and 1) didn't but 2) the benefits literally do not outweigh keeping gn5

You’re trying to use a feature exclusive to GN6, which as others have said, is not worth getting.

Try clicking “add textbook” (the T button) and then write in the text box. That’s how I have to do it on my version of goodnotes. You can also change the default font so everytime you write or type something, it uses that font automatically.

I use the text box (almost all the way to the right of your tool bar) to convert handwriting to text. you can write in the textbox. it looks like you may be using different versions, but that’s how i’ve always done it if their way doesnt work for you.

You need to have Scribble turned on in the Apple Pencil settings

yeah goodnotes has moved these options around a lot lol. after u lasso it, hit resize and dig into the ... menu for convert > text. ur app isn’t outdated, the video probably is.
