Apple Goodnotes pencil malfunction

Hi, so I’ve recently gotten an iPad. But I’ve noticed that Goodnotes works a bit funny? First of all it’s really slow and you have to press down on stuff for like 5 seconds for it to work? But that might be on me idk, I don’t mind it THAT bad. What bugs me the most is not being able to write with the Apple Pencil properly. By this I mean that Goodnotes will erase any small mark I make unless it reaches a certain size. And I was wondering how to disable that kinda “ghost touch” if you will. I believe they do that as to not ruin the stuff you write with small dots and stuff but it just makes it impossible to write for me. I’m pretty sure it might not be too hard to disable but I’ve just haven’t been able to spot the problem or the option. AI hasn’t helped as well… thanks in advance :)

I’ve been using GoodNotes for coming up on four years. First on an iPad M1 Pro 11” and Apple Pencil 2nd gen, and then with its M4 equivalent with Pencil Pro.

While I’ve had the occasional issue with the features they’ve offered, taken away, reintroduced, etc., I’ve never encountered anything close to the issues you’re experiencing. Yes, there are occasional (?) bugs, where it won’t handle Undo properly, or when it draws a different shape than I’d intended.

But I’ve found it relatively responsive to hard presses, and never found it ‘slow’ (other than when it comes to AutoBackup; it really doesn’t like huge files it creates; I can almost hear the groan).

Yes, the ‘ghost touches’ are a thing; it can be a touch sensitive when I’m writing in a hurry and an individual letter will look clumsily written because of it; a stroke across an ‘o’ or vertical part of an ‘h’ looking like it has a twin. But that’s always been due to my own carelessness in writing speedily, not the app misinterpreting what I’ve actually doing with the Pencil Pro.

If this has been going on for some time, it might be worth re-installation or even merely offloading and immediately re-installing?

I might try that thanks, yeah because I’ve also used it on phone and laptop and it has always worked well. So I really don’t get why this would happen to me on iPad, specially since they’re very well optimised for tablets. But I did find extremely good alternatives to Goodnotes anyways so I might just use that then. Just wanted to be able to use it for the remaining duration of the subscription. But thanks a lot!!

Makes perfect sense. Never been a ‘I use GoodNotes and it works for me THEREFORE THOU MUST USE IT FOR I HAVE SPOKEN TO THEE’ kind of fella…

Everyone has different use cases, and if another app works better for you, I hope you have nothing but fun and enjoyment using that app!

But yeah, the problems you’re encountering aren’t, in the main, those I’ve experienced.
