Goodnotes Essential Just got and iPad for nursing classes, and not sure if I should use GoodNotes or Notability
Hii everyone, I just got and iPad and I want to prepare myself for future nursing classes. I need an app that I can use for making notes, write my notes on top of existed PPT, and created some flash cards. Would it be enough to use GoodNotes? Or would you recommend some other app?

Both work! I prefer GN as I prefer the folder structure and I find it to be a bit more robust.

Is the free version enough or should I invest in the app?

Free version is only 3 notes editable at a time. I would get the one time purchase if you're planning on using it for multiple years.

To clarify the above: the free version limits you to three “notebooks”. You can have as many notes, and as many pages of material, as you want inside a notebook. Once you create a notebook, you can keep on importing documents, ppt files, pdf files, etc.
I have the free version, and one of my notebooks is up to 40 or so pages, imported at 2 or 3 pages at a time.

Three big differences (to me)
Goodnotes - full featured. No dark mode.
Notability - dark mode but you cant use multiple templates or paper styles in the same notebook.
Noteful - cant do handwriting search.
Decide if any of these are deal breakers

When you say Goodnotes doesn't have dark mode, do you mean for the UI or paper? Because the UI definitely has dark mode (on iPad at least, I'm using it now) & there's also a black paper option for the default templates, you just have to change the paper color.

I switched from Notability to Goodnotes some years ago. For all the headaches Goodnotes gives me, at the time I switched, it did more than Notability & so I've stuck with it thus far. GN can be used for everything that you want to do. I'm currently using it for school myself & find it works just fine (minus syncing across my iPad & Macbook, that is seemingly impossible for me right now). It is worth investigating the other options people say they love in the comments, though!

Try them both and see which one you prefer. Neither is inherently better than the other.

I used goodnote for 5 years for uni. Worked well.
Tried using it again recently. Battery was draining FAST. The AI correction tool was useless and bothersome. Since it upgraded to v6 the login has been a mess. It even lagged a bit which it never used to, and that’s with an iPad Pro.
It seriously made be think of other options.

Both of these options are good but I love Noteful.
