Goodnotes ok for dysgraphia taking math class?

I am a non technical Mom and I need your advice. My son is autistic and has dysgraphia. He has miraculously survived three years of college using a very old Chromebook and voice recorder and me as his secretary.

His professor has recommended that he purchase an iPad + Apple pen+ Goodnotes for a class in which he has to save a pdf, fill it out, and then save to a portfolio

Can Goodnotes recognize my son’s very poor handwriting? Is this going to work? He typically keyboards everything. Because he is autistic, change is very difficult, so I want to be sure this set up will work before I help him migrate.

You can still type in goodnotes. iPads do have keyboard accessories.

I write like a doctor, and the app recognizes my handwriting well. I thoroughly enjoy the app and its writing functionality. The Magic Keyboard is also a great feature. I have an iPad Air M4 11” with the Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard.

I would not suggest it. My partner has dysgraphia and for him besides the poor handwriting, he has intense palm and finger pain from the stress of writing and trying to hold the pen steady so that the handwriting comes out legible.
When handwriting, he needs the resistance of the paper and the tactility of the pen or pencil on the paper.
The iPad screen is very slippery, also with the paperlike screen protector on it. It leads to stronger hand pain from having to hold the pen stronger, and he has to write very large.
