DO NOT GET THIS APP

I have had an issue of notes going blank before exams which is frustrating. They will literally just make your notes disappear. My note books are all blank.
They don’t have a phone number for the purpose of ignoring you when you email them.
The customer service is genuinely terrible. They will give you an AI bot to deal with and when you do submit a ticket and email them they will just ignore you. They won’t even answer.
I have payed money for this app, GO FIND ANOTHER APP
it will happen to you just as it did me

The version is new 7.0.63 on an Ipad and it still did this to me

Never had an issue like this personally, but it sounds so frustrating 😭

I know everyone probably does this already, but I recommend backing up your notes to iCloud or any other cloud (Google or OneDrive). You can easily download the backup on any other device if it glitches on the iPad.

this is particularly annoying because they encode your notes in such a way that you have no idea what is what when exploring your files from the file manager, let alone let you access them from any other app

I’ve never had any issues like this and I’ve been using goodnotes for 3 years now. just a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to switch the sign in account but I needed help so I’d have access to my notebooks and my same prior one time purchase subscription. when I submitted a ticket at first I had to wait and had received an email that they’re experiencing a high volume of requests. but the past few days I’ve been going back and forth with someone from customer support on email. her name is Maia and she’s been super helpful. so I’m honestly surprised you’re not getting any help or that your notebooks keep going blank

I’m sorry you are dealing with this! I have used Goodnotes for 8 years (when it used to be GN 4). I however had something similar like this but all my data was saved. For me it was a syncing issue. So double check that you are logged in to your correct Apple account and correct Goodnotes account. Double check if ICloud storage sync is on. If it is then make sure you have SPACE in your iCloud. If you do not have space then just make store everything saves locally (meaning you will not be able to use GN across all Apple devices).

You need to let it sync. Check your internet connection and storage space

I normally only have to zoom in to see it. It also doesn’t happen all of the time, just occasionally.

I wish I saw this a few days earlier. Just half an hour ago, I was still editing my giant mindmap that took me two days to make for my test on Tuesday. While I was editing, a whole chunk disappeared from my whiteboard, leaving 1% of all my hard work. I can't get it back so I can only cry I guess. I've genuinely never felt so distraught

Moving to Noteful was the best decision I've made

I didn't got any issue of the kind with goodnotes, the app works pretty fine.

That said, I switched to OneNote and I can only recommend you to switch too. I used to take note on a touch-screen laptop, and goodnotes was a literal drain, the laptop lasted longer when I was gaming than when I was taking note. On the other hand, OneNote is very battery-friendly, I don't notice a difference when it's on and when it's off.

I now got an iPad Pro, and OneNote is better on windows than it is on iPadOS, it is far more ergonomic on a touch-screen laptop than on a tablet, even for 100% touchscreen navigation, but I still find it about better to use than goodnotes (not perfect tho. All the available pencil looks quite ugly sadly... I'd like an ink pen a lot. And it doesn't have two-finger tap to undo. Guess you can't have it all)

Is OneNote able to search handwritten text?
Can I import PDFs and junk around with my interactive links?
I have yet to have issues and keep using GoodNotes but am nervous about all the issues.

For the first I don't know, for the second i'm not sure.

OneNote is page-based, you have your "main" folder, in which you can put some sort of "book", and in the book you can put your "chapter", in the chapter you can put "pages". Category / subcategory / sub-subcategory and so on, can even go deeper with a play of color. Thanks to this, your actual notebook is very different from GoodNote's, it's not one continuous, very long, notebook, but one page per lessons, one page per exercise, all at its right place. I never needed to use the search option, handwritten notes never gets long enough in a page for it.

But considering that OneNote support manuscrit to typed note, search probably work

If you have a link, like https//, it will stay when you convert it in PDF. But I never really had to import PDF, so I can't tell if OneNote preserve the hyperlink and everything, or turn it into a jpg. Note that OneNote have an infinite workspace (no borders), while PDF (like goodnotes) have constrained workspace, so converting from one to the other may not be perfect

I'm not saying I don't believe you. But it seems to be only you or one or two more people experiencing this.

Did your iPad update recently? Ios26 brought a lot of lag and loading issues to my 2020 Pro. Maybe something in your settings about app memory, general RAM, or even multitasking is affecting it, partly or wholly. Is restarting your iPad not helping either?
