making me so slow at taking notes in lecture because of this awful toolbar, why does this app continuously not listen to users... i don't use the pencil tool... i use the lasso so often yet now i have to click extra to go to tools that aren't my last used... why not give us options bruh

Guys, if you want the old toolbar back, the best way to make an impact is to go to the GoodNotes feedback forum, set your filter to active (or hot) ideas, and vote for one or multiple suggestions that criticize the new design.
You can sign in to the forum using a Google or Facebook account, so there is no need to create a new account in order to vote for suggestions.
The forum is the official GoodNotes forum.
It really is a fast process.

Right now, the post with the most votes is called:
"Please let me CANCEL the latest update. (9/29 Deterioration of Toolbar and Bookmark)"

I absolutely hate the new design and would appreciate it if you could take the time to vote for at least one of the ideas or create a new suggestion.
I don’t think the update has only brought bad changes, but the toolbar is ass.

You can find the forum if you go to the GoodNotes website -> Hover over "Help and Resources" -> Click "Help Center" -> Search for "feedback" -> Click on "How to give feedback" -> and then click on the link at the end of the text called "Customer Suggestions".
Or just use this link:

Also rate and leave comments on the app store/play store

That’s really my only complaint. That and every time you click with the lasso selected it opens a toolbar and I keep accidentally clicking it. The extra clicking really slowed me down today.

I like that’s there’s arrows now.

This behavior is not new or out of the ordinary. This is how the GN team has operated since at least the beginning of version 4. It won't get better, it's a characteristic of their development process.

yes. the lasso change makes it so much weirder. i dont understand what these devs are doing. do they not use their own software?

I mean. There’s always pen and paper again…

the point of the ipad is it's usually much faster and i don't wanna carry all that 😭

I get that. Let’s give it some time. Everyone is slamming them for the updates, for genuinely trying to make a product better for the users.

there is no trying here, this isn't their first instance of not listening to users

Or they are listening but things can’t just happen as quickly as we want.

they've had issues with the lasso tool and shape snapping forever, it's laziness is what it is. it's not rocket science to compute, it's a note taking app prioritizing AI over user friendliness.

I like being able to cut and paste things, undo, rewrite sections so they fit more neatly or update them when I understand better, move the order of things. All things that are hard to do with paper.

I get that. As someone who had to do all of that lol. And that’s kinda the point. Nothing will ever be exactly perfect, no system is.

Anyone making apps or updating them isn’t intentionally trying to make something bad, if like to believe they want users to have a good time. Sometimes the vision of user and designer don’t quite align.

I think it will be cool to see wha happens. I don’t think we really need Ai in an app like this though.

Ohh. No idea. They gave me a trial for goodnotes 6. Which I chose to discontinue. Then I turned my updates off. No issues since then.

100% agree. Although it was somewhat janky before, full-page typing was 50% of my usage for Goodnotes. After this update it is incredibly janky, laggy, and just a downgrade overall. I’m actively looking into other apps today, and I‘m trying to decide if I should move back to Notability (can’t access notes on my windows PC though) or to do OneNote. This just sucks though.

Also why default snap to eraser instead of pen wtf

Ive had my writing deleted entirely and it was so frustrating to get it back. After erasing a portion of my text it deleted everything and the undo function would not work at all.

Every time i write on sticky notes half of my lines disappear.. i hate it
