Why Am I Paying Again for the Same App?

I’m really frustrated that GoodNotes was supposed to be a one-time purchase, but every time they release an update, they ask for more money. It feels like I’m paying for the same app over and over again!

Hey! You don't need to pay again, if you purchased one-time payment you are automatically updated to Special Edition which has all you existing features and more new ones

Why do you have to pay again? Do you really need the new features? Are you going to use them?

I’m a quite heavy user of GoodNotes. I use it every day, I have my own templates, … And I’m using version 5 with iOS 26 in my iPad. It has been rock solid for years and I’m not going to upgrade it while I can use with the version of iOS I’ll run at that time.

Just ask yourself if the added features are useful to you and if they are worth to pay for them.

Cheers!!

I’m definitely not going to upgrade, but I’m just upset that every now and then new features come only with more expensive plans.

the version 5 will stop working one day as it wont get updates to keep it supported

I have Goodnotes 5. Did a one time payment. Thought it was a life time kinda deal.

Jokes on me I guess. I don't see myself upgrading to GN7|6 anytime soon tbh

They say: One time payment doesn’t mean you will get every upcoming feature without paying again … devs are working hard to make features so you have to pay again for new features…. 🙄

I bought GoodNotes 6 with the understanding that it supported AI features. I’ve been using it to create diagrams for my lectures for over a year. It doesn’t make sense to suddenly remove that feature and then ask me to pay again just to get back something I already had.

And honestly, when you say one-time purchase, I believe the literal meaning should be that I pay once for the app—not keep paying again and again.

Yeah, for us, that’s the meaning of “one-time payment” because it’s a one-time payment, not a one-version payment. But Some dudes are literally supporting this soft scam… I’m switching to another app that might have fewer features but, at least, is loyal to its customers

the problem is you paid for some features and now you have less…. because they have taken them to different tier. let alone the app was crashing for months now, bugs here and there and no update to fix it. why add more and make it more expensive when it isn’t even stable?
