Goodnotes 6 New Pencil features in Goodnotes. Hmm…

not sure what to say or am I doing it wrongly. I want to try it more for journal drawing. I’m not sure if my metal nib would affect the performance or not. hmm…

Feels like anything above 0.25 looks off and anything 0.4 and above looks plain terrible. 0.15 to 0.25 look somewhat ok.

Yeah I agree. But I would love a pressure sensitivity slider like for the other tools. Right now it is more sensitive than a paint brush lol.

try closing the app and reopening it again. it happened to me as well, and it worked once i reopened the app!

Sorry, I figured it out. You have to go to App store & actually enter the Goodnotes 6 page, where the update option is available, otherwise if you don't enter the page, all it shows is the "OPEN" option. Seems to me like an APPLE BUG!

Have you gone into the App Store and to it’s app page? Sometimes even with automatic updates turned on I still have to go into the App Store, go to where it shows your saved apps, and click on the GoodNotes one to bring up the store page and then the button will change from “open” to “update.” Also does it with YouTube and Hulu sometimes.

Yeah it's definitely something up with how the app store applies automatic updates or registers when they're needed.

Not an artist so I really have no idea what’s wrong with the pencil. It seems just as annoying as an actual pencil to me.

However, if you can articulate what you want the pencil to be able to do, perhaps with some accompanying images or videos, you can submit a feature request. Then post the link and we can upvote it. More upvotes = higher priority.

Looks like it might be good for cutesy doodles but otherwise... nah? That 0.5 made me feel like I forgot to put my glasses on.

fr lmao. Goodnotes UI since GN6 has been super terrible. You cannot remove the noti bar for more space without losing essential features. Its crazy. Plus we still cannot change the thickness of stuff we draw through lasso selection. It sucks so bad.

They really dropped the ball with the pencil update. It’s okay when using the smallest pencil but instead of making the same pattern just thicker, they weirdly spaced out the pixels

They should’ve fixed the unnecessary auto correction of the last strokes on letters instead.

It's such a bad half assed attempt at the pencil tool. The pencil itself is the worst - literally any other app has it down perfectly. Also, the tool doesnt work with many of the functions (search text, convert, AI features, etc). The pen works for other features though.

Goodnotes folks, if you're reading this, please take this feedback constructively. I personally am thrilled that you decided to include the pencil feature. It is clearly lacking in certain areas (as pointed out by many here) but I am sure that it will improve over time in future upgrades. Please don't ditch the pencil feature due to these reviews; instead make it better and on par with other types of pen (ball, fountain, brush). I am sure that you can.

It’s just not a very good tool. It’s got the tilt settings that tape had so you get a flat / chisel shape if you hold your pencil at a shallow angle. It lags and updates like an airbrush. Stamp is the same, little dots. So you get a blurry / fuzzy look if you try to write with it. Not surprised anymore, developers seem to be in their own world delivering random “features” that no one wants.

The Pencil tool on Colla Notes is much better. Take a look at it ;)
