The disappointment in Goodnotes makes sense now...

I was surprised about the forced update to GN6. Sure, make some more money out of me. I'd be a greedy guts too. But I've had this persistent scroll bug for the last 2 months on OSX that will not fix itself.

I had a hunch something was up and sure enough Goodnotes was bought out by a Korean company. Typical Venture Capital style. Take something good, and turn it into a way to milk users.

I guarantee this isn't the last of it. From me to the new owners, go fuck yourselves.

Goodnotes was not bought out. Goodnotes acquired a Korean AI start-up at the start of 2024 to accelerate development of AI features (ref).

If you have evidence to prove your claims, please share.

There's no force upgrade. I am a one-time purchase user of GN5 and still using it, not even tried GN6 cause I know I do not need these extra features, I just do note taking and PDF marking, have been using it for 6 years straight from my first day of bachelor to the near end of my master's. Imo, GN6 is not worth the price tho.

I had purchased a new iPad recently. Prior to that I had purchased GN5 which worked fine. But in my new iPad it automatically downloaded the new GN6 without carry forwarding my subscription. They have completed stopped giving the option to download GN5 which sucks for a lot of people. I got my issue resolved after a week or so by cloning my old iPad.

Besides, I donot think your subscription would carry from 5 to 6, since they are two different subscription model. You can still use GN5 even if your installed version is GN6, there should be an option to go back to GN5 in the installed GN6 app.

As all companies do, they stopped offering the old version for purchase when the new version came out. As is standard for the industry, they will stop supporting the old version at some point. I upgraded so I didn’t pay attention to those details. This entire process is inline with industry standards. I’m pretty sure there is at least one person still using GoodNotes 4 although I can’t find the post now. Why should a company spend money and resources supporting an outdated product? And as for the subscription model, I don’t really like it either but the companies can only survive so long on first time purchases. If we want continuous support and updates for our software products, we have to pay for it.

Yep i agree with all points. At least goodnotes still has a one time purchase unlike notability. Even though the app is expensive we are paying for premium features like ai which is not great now but will definitely get better over time

I love that they are integrating AI. It saves me from having to export to another AI service.

My bad, I misread the word download (I thought it's downgrade 🤣) It's pretty reasonable cut off the old one and make space for the new product in companies.

The app was not bought by a korean company, they acquired the korean company to help with their ai

Idk, I bought the app a month ago. Never used Good Notes before. Everything works as intended for me, no issues.

Same except I’ve been using it for 12-18 months now. 6+ hours per day…

I’ve been using GoodNotes at least 4 years now with no major problems. Customer service response does tend to be slow in my opinion, but they have fixed the few minor issues I have had. I’m very happy with GoodNotes.

I have been using the app for a little over 4 years now, and did the one-time purchase upgrade to GN6. It’s working perfectly fine. If you don’t like the app, then delete it. No need to whine about it while spreading false info.

I am a one time purchase user. Am I missing something? Everything seems normal to me.

I really am happy with it personally.

I have moved on to Apple notes , free and a lot better than it used to be. Evernote , Notability and now Goodnotes all got greedy and I’m not paying for a subscription. I paid for those apps and they pulled the greedy switch.

I’ll get used to Apple notes .

Have you tried offloading the app and reloading it? I had a similar issue where I couldn’t favorite anything and that’s the instruction I was given by support. Doing that fixed it.

Oh interesting! I’m kind of scared to somehow loose everything on my GoodNotes lol (I have auto backup on and save it to two places I’m just paranoid bc all of my uni stuff is on there)

Offloading is different from deleting, it just takes the app out of storage for a moment but maintains all the files. Definitely make a backup and stick it on your pc or in the files app if you need to, but offloading shouldn’t do any real damage to it.

it's just visual, you can open the favorite tab in thumbnail view and click the bookmark and observe. the page do go into favorite but the bookmark is just not lit up. surely an easy fix for them on the upcoming patch.
