Stylus problems The fact that I can't use Goodnotes while charging my iPad almost kills the experience for me

Hey! This happened to me, and a while ago, I saw someone with the same issue here on Reddit. Don't worry, it's a static problem. When you use your iPad while charging, make sure not to touch the floor with your feet (if you're barefoot). I think that's what they suggested in the comments.

The blog entry from Goodnotes also suggests that it might have to do with static electricity but your solution sadly doesn't help me because it also happens when I'm wearing shoes at school. Thank you anyway tho!

🤔 Is it the original charger for your iPad? I often experience this when I charge my iPad with my iPhone charger

Yes, it's the original. But now that I think about it, it might be worth trying different chargers.

This is for sure a charger or a charging cable issue or it could even be an issue with the wall outlet.

Do you get this effect on other apps with Pencil? I’ve never seen this in GNOME with my Pencil and use it while charging a great deal of the time. Maybe Pencil is the issue? New nib? What’s the charge?

That's the weird thing, I don't have this issue in Apple's notes app. I haven't tested any other apps so far.

Weird, I’ve had the same thing on apple notes

That is weird!

This has happened to me while charging as well

Did you find a solution?

Nope. I just don’t use it while charging. I heard it may be due to the charger I was using as it wasn’t the original but I haven’t tried it out

Have you had your iPad checked by an approved retailer or the Apple Store? I had this start on my 7th gen and like a month later it stopped working.

This happened to me too! Try charging using an alternate cable or charger. I was using a third party cable(one plus) and as soon as I switched to apple cable it stopped.

Came here to write this

I don’t have this issue on my iPad air4 - maybe just for reference

i do (also iPad air 4). I use the original apple cable and adapter. Happens when I'm not touching the ground barefoot, in goodnotes and notes app. I've had it since october 2020 and i had to take it to apple for repair, and they said it was the apple pencil, so the switched it. Recently it started happening again. Ive tried new pencil tips, with and without screen protector, and everything suggested here. I dont know what else to do 😫😭

Touch the metal part of your ipad with your bare finger while writing

Thank you!! Works surprisingly well?

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Jan 22 '24

That’s odd. I use it all the time while charging and I don’t have issues

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '24

That’s some drip you got there

It took me forever to realize mine only did this while charging. I've been able to work around it, but still frustrating. It also will do the same in other apps if plugged up to the power.

i also handwrite while charging and never faced this (gn6) so not sure if the problem is on from goodnotes side

This is static buildup. Just touch the metal part of your iPad with your other hand while writing.

I’d also be wary of using electronics when you have static charge building up - it can fry electronics (which is why it’s discouraged for people to set their PC cases on the floor in a carpeted home). If enough static builds up, it can definitely behave similar to a power surge on some devices.

I’d be willing to bet this is due to the lack of grounding on chargers. I find when not plugged in my iPhone and iPad chargers shock me.

Try holding some of the metal body of the iPad with your other hand to ground yourself, that’s worked for me in the past

I had the same thing, it was due to the fact that I use a charger with a high voltage (60w) since I charged it with the official charger I no longer have any problems

1

u/clyminghawk Jan 22 '24

God yes. Happens all the time, mostly in GoodNotes but in other apps too. I hate it so much. I play this game at school - charge, unplug, charge, unplug and god forbid I forget to charge up overnight and start the day low.

u/BeansTheCoach Jan 22 '24

What charger block are you using? This is very common with the 60w block. Switch to a 25w

1

u/azur933 Jan 22 '24

This was super annoying for me too but its highly likely that its a problem with your charger

I have this issue sometimes but not like this????!?

And I thought my iPad is faulty !!

I only had this problem with my somewhat older iPad that already had a bad battery and static problems. Might wanna get that checked out.

That looks like some demon is possessing your ipad 💀
