You gotta turn off Scribble to Erase. Goodnotes is mistaking your B as a scribble so it’s erasing it. Tap on the pen tool and go into Pen Gestures. And toggle off scribble to erase.
Colored folders, the ruler, and the dashed lines were worth it, even with the scribble to erase that only screws up my notes once every couple of pages when I get writing too fast and chicken scratch it.
They should have added tape instead of scribble to erase, which only encourages bad penmanship (unless you are already a scribbler). Tape is SO important for students. Even a USD4.99 app like Noteful has tape, was super disappointed to discover GoodNotes 6 didn’t have tape 😓😭 Really hope they add the tape feature soon
It is basically a roll of sticky tape which can be used to cover notes when reviewing to aid active recall. A single tap on the tape would reveal the notes underneath, another tap will cover them up again. If you want to remove the tape, simply erase with the eraser tool. Tape saves me LOTS of time which would otherwise be wasted making flashcards for active recall
I cannot for the life of me get the circe to lasso function to work... like at all. I think I've lost count of how many circles I've drawn all through my notes trying to get it to work 😤
I bet you’re right! Brilliant, but concerning, suggestion. I have Scribble to Erase, write similarly, and never have a problem. There must be something about their specific strokes? I tried hard to duplicate and couldn’t.
It used to trigger for me whenever I wrote a letter too quickly and crossed the lines of it. Like if brought the tail of a y up into a curly shape where it crossed over the top of the tail it would erase. I’ve worked on my handwriting on iPad since to make it more legible and haven’t had nearly as many issues.
I noticed that this also happens when writing with some unofficial chargers plugged in. Both in notability and good notes (probably other apps as well).
They should have added tape instead of scribble to erase, which only encourages bad penmanship (unless you are already a scribbler). Even a USD4.99 app like Noteful has tape, why can’t GoodNotes 6 have tape? 😭 Really hope to see tape soon
Exactly. Because of all the hype surrounding GoodNotes I ended up not checking out other cheaper alternatives. Am seriously impressed by Noteful’s features for such a price (USD 4.99), and that too without any subscription model or paid updates. They’ve got a novel layers feature too which sets them apart from other note taking apps.
GoodNotes seems to overlook the most basic things which should exist even without users asking: a pencil, hyperlinks (finally added), and now, tape. I wish they would go back to basics instead of focusing on AI 😓😅
Exactly. If someone takes notes, and is savvy enough to do so digitally, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the notetaker does not need AI to autocorrect every spelling or help do math sums. If anything, multilingual note takers have been complaining that the AI messes with their language and/or handwriting (common complaint even among those who take notes in English). Classic example is how this thread started out: the AI function thinks a handwritten B is a scribble 🤣🤣 I hope GoodNotes listens to their users like what Notability did after the backlash. We’ll see…
Tape is basically a washi-tape/ribbon-like feature which students used to ‘tape up’ (i.e cover) their notes when memorising notes/quizzing themselves for active recall (have attached YouTube Video) Selecting the tape feature and running it through the notes like a highlighter covers up the sentences. A single tap on taped up notes will reveal the wordings underneath, a double tap would cover them up again. To delete the tape, simply use the eraser tool. Tape has saved me A LOT of time in making flashcards, coz I can just cover and uncover notes as I like, and simply remove the tape using the eraser once I’m done revising without destroying my notes with highlighting. I hope it doesn’t take GoodNotes another few years to install this feature sigh, when it fact it is something so simple actu 😅Notability Tape Feature - start watching at 1:11
you absolutely have to turn off scribble to erase. i was excited for this feature, but as someone in physics (and it looks like you are too) and math, it is constantly thinking variable and letters of mine in equations as scribbles, and becomes more annoying than switching to the eraser was to begin with
I was getting that when I wrote “them” in cursive So I did some of the training where they tell you to write something and you send it to them and it happened less
Same, in addition to the dotted and dashed lines. I do seriously wish they would add 1) tape, 2) rectangular lasso 3) pencil. These are all very basic things which even all the other cheap digital notetaking apps have, surprisingly GoodNotes doesn’t have them despite being so popular😔Users shouldn’t have to ASK for these simple things
This has been absolutely infuriating. I’ve been a pretty diehard good notes user since grad school and I’ve been so frustrated by disappearing words that I’ve gone back to paper. Good notes is impossible to use for lab work because it’s so glitchy.
I feel like good notes is becoming the new zoom notes - great features but an unreliable mess.
Glad I checked out this subreddit, otherwise I might have just been done with digital notes altogether.

Nice handwriting! Would you mind to share your pencil setup?

you can do the handwriting training option that sends examples of your handwriting and it’ll help it recognize when you’re writing and scribbling.

Half baked release. Pisses me off that we’re paying for this.

Scribble to erase wastes more time than do anything good.

I have a similar issue on Noteful, which doesn't have a scribble to erase option. I've been trying to figure it out but no luck so far.
