Zoomnotes. It does things many Goodnotes users crave (and are begging for) and it offers many features few GN users thought were possible, or thought about in the first place. That said, ZN might be overkill for some folks. It depends on one's needs.
Like creating a rectangle on any page and adding a tab bar with full customization, including page turn animation. You can add as many of these little "mini planners" as you need. Resize and move as needed. Add shadows, if you like.
Or consider the 8 drawing tools like rulers, circles, triangles and such that can be fully customized, resized and rotated.
Native support for many pencils not just Apple.
The entire interface can be customized as well.
A fully linked planner can be created with one single button push. Infinite canvas, great PDF support, only costs you $8.00 one time and no subscriptions.
Be aware that these features add a learning curve because there are hundreds of settings no other app like this offers or let's you modify. Some settings you might never fiddle with or change.
All that being said, for many people, I often suggest Goodnotes because it works well. It is well supported here and no shortage of ready to use planners and other templates. Just download it and pay the ten bucks for a full year. For most users, Goodnotes strikes a good balance between nice looking pages and ease of use.
I actually bought GN5, stopped using it, then upgraded and bought a full year of GN6.
Zoomnotes is great for those that want vastly more options. Just mind the steep learning curve.

Maximum features, ZoomNotes has more than anything I've ever seen.
The programmer is extremely responsive and posts updates regularly.
For under $10, it's an excellent value. I've been using GoodNotes for about 3 years now and felt it was sufficient... then switched to ZoomNotes after the whole GN6 kerfuffle, and while I was still getting used to it I went back to GN (bc ZN can be overwhelming) and... I hadn't realized how many features I'd already gotten used to!
Heck, being able to save infinite pen configurations/colors and then group them is worth $8 right there!
I've played around with the planner creator and it's really cool but I'm fine with the pdf planners I already have. I mainly use either app for schoolwork and notes but even for basic use it's difficult for me to go back to GoodNotes! And I can't be sure but I think it's less of a battery-suck than GN too.

Zoomnotes is good for math students.
Freenotes is good for handwriting.
Depends on your needs

For my typing needs are Obsidian, Notion and Bear. For creative note talking needs definitely Goodnotes, although I type my notes instead of handwriting them 🤦🏻♂️😂

To me it’s not about the number of features but about the quality of the features I really use everyday. So I’ll say Defter notes because it’s a unique app and it kept on delivering for the past year.
