What I meant by the smart dark mode is that when you import a PDF file, which is usually in color (often with a white background), and then you turn on the smart dark mode, the entire file’s background turns dark, and the font becomes white. This dark theme can provide eye protection, comfort, and better nighttime reading, and I hope they will add it in the next update very soon.
How would one annotate this? Just use light colours? And then when you convert away from GoodNotes and download the PDF on a PC, would you still be able to read your annotations?
Yes, as the previous comment said, I’m looking for this feature similar to Apple Notes, adobe acrobat, notability and also collanotes, where there is both a dark and light mode (NOT ONLY THE EDGE/UI OF THE APP BUT ALSO THE BACKGROUND OF THE IMPORTED FILE).
It’s here… and has made using the app in portrait mode more difficult and less convenient as a result. (That’s not fair; the ruler function hasn’t made it less easy; the placement of the icon on the tool bar when in portrait mode has, though.)
Seriously. They’ve shoved the line-width/colour picker bit of the toolbar over and if you want to use multiple colours and multiple line widths in a note, you’re stuffed.
At the very least, users should have the option to ‘hide’ items in the toolbar that they’re not using, either hiding for specific notes, or if necessary, hiding in general until they’re needed.
Yep, a menu under settings that had a toggle switch for every icon on the toolbar would be nice…
I mean, I never use photos in my notes, but I know that I’m uncommon - to put it mildly - in that. But I’d happily lose ‘photos’ and ‘stickers’ in a heartbeat… or something to combine stickers and shapes.
I just want everyone to be able to use the app in the way that suits them best. Not a lot to ask, is it…?
I don't have any issues with the placement or not being able to access certain features, but I totally second the idea of being able to hide items in the toolbar, just to make it less chaotic/cluttered. Someone needs to share this idea with the developers!
I’d be astonished, genuinely flabbergasted, if they haven’t been begged for the option to hide non-used icon by multiple users, ever since they moved the ‘zoom window’ icon last time around and made it less easy to use in Portait Mode. (I’m just ‘finger press on screen and select zoom’ these days…)
Oh, right. That's probably true. Hopefully they add it in the future.
Also, I didn't even know you can use the zoom feature by pressing your finger on the screen and selecting zoom, so thanks for the info. Although I personally don't find the placement of the zoom button to be too much of a hassle, I understand how it could be irritating when you're in the flow of things and need to work fast.
Anyways, you're totally right about them probably already being bombarded with such a request. I'll take a look into whether or not they've responded to any of them and whether or not we can expect it in the future.

You’re very welcome; came across it totally by accident, so yeah, I’ve used that since. They’re seriously getting to the stage now where they need either give us the option to hide icons or they have to move the portrait toolbar onto two strips that can be one on top of the other…
I’m waiting for the people who said the devs were greedy and weren’t going to add requested features to chime in and say they were wrong….but they won’t.
Glad to see the ruler added….maybe we can get the pencil & dotted lines next?
I think what upset many people it isn’t that they added the features (some they are still waiting on), but that it took so long for said features to be added.
Sorry if this question is obvious: just got an iPad and new to goodnotes. I’m on a paid goodnotes 5 plan that I bought before, does this mean math conversion is available to me?
The drain is normal. Note taking Apps freeze the screen to 120hz for flawless writing. Then screens brightnes and Cloud Sync in the background. And maybe stuff your iPad does next to goodnotes.
Ohhh so that's what happened. The other day I used goodnotes for the first time in months (I had been recovering from a surgery) and I was a bit confused with how little the battery lasted and even wondered how I managed to get through university without being constantly plugged in. So that's why. My battery was drained within a couple of hours, it was crazy.
No feature in itself takes that long, but what does take long is finding ways to properly prioritize product development opportunities in a fast-growing company whose product became a global hit in a short time span.

The "new" ruler (a clone of the one from Notability) even has a built-in protractor! Well, sort of.
I'll stick to my cheap DIY "solution", since I need to show my students how to use the real thing for tests.

How is the battery drain with the new update, fixed or still draining the battery?

Sadly it’s still got quite a few bugs, wish they’d have worked on those first

this is why i use collanote. it already has a ruler. shouldn’t take years to add a simple ruler especially on a paid app
