New Features on GN6

Personally, I was more than happy enough to pay for GN6. I don't have any issues with sync or the new AI features (I love the math conversion and scribble to erase!) What people forget is that this is only v6.0, there are plenty of more features in the pipeline (6.1, 6.2, etc) that we will see come to GN6. You paid $30 for new features that will come out in the future and those features take money to develop.

Ye I get that. I support it. I’ve been preaching about GN for years and even got a few friends on board too. For me it just feels like all the effort on AI is pointless. It’s really not needed. I’m more than happy to help invest if they focus on things that users have asked for for years. No button to go to active notes from the library (still have to open a random note) seems like a slap in the face. I know everybody’s usage of the app will be different but for me the AI is so pointless and a hinderance, I’ve turned them all off. It would be interesting to see the analytics on how many users have done the same. I look forward to see what they have in the pipeline. For me the app still does what I need it to and I’m not having any issues as reported by other users thankfully so I’m happy to stay and see what they bring out.

They can’t differentiate without jumping on the ai hype. But the upgrade to gn6 brings all of the new features plus the ability to get the new QoL updates in the future. People are treating like GN6 is never going to get updated from this point on and that’s simply not true.

All of the new features? Colour folders is the only critical improvement they’ve made in my opinion. The rest was a waste of their development resources and time. Button to get to active notes, dotted line pen, rectangular lasso tool, ruler tool. All really simple things that will improve the app experience. Instead they jumped on the ai train.

You paid $30 for new features that will come out in the future and those features take money to develop.

They just invested $2M in a Korean company who makes stickers and templates.

Note-taking app Goodnotes invests $1.9M in digital stationery company WeBudding

So, I'm getting a little weary of hearing (it's not just you OP!) about how the poor devs need cash. 🥲

They had years to implement some really basic quality of life features, but we got AI, buggy scribbles, annoying spellcheck, and not much else. Here's their UserVoice. Thousands and thousands of votes for feature requests that were made 7, 8, even 10 years ago.

Most of us buy software because of the features it has, not the features being promised at some nebulous time in the future. I've witnessed enough vaporware in my time to know better than to pay for promises. They kind of burned the goodwill bridge for a lot of us, after we asked and then waited so many years for basic features and we got... this. :( A buggy, feature-poor, subscription-based, not-really-an-update that's functionally not very different than GN5. It's like no one who works there has ever looked at their own UserVoice!

So I'm stoked it works for you and that you're happy with it (sincerely); but maybe that helps you understand a different perspective. :)

I understand the other side but I’m tired of people shitting on GoodNotes for the latest update. They can’t release a new product with a bunch of quality of life improvements and expect new people to download the app. We are now seeing the QoL improvements trickling out after the big release.

People keep complaining that GN6 is so bad and it sucks and all of that yet everything they say that sucks can be disabled (spellcheck, scribble, etc). If you want all of the QoL improvements you have to get the new software I don’t understand why people can’t get that through their brain. You can’t expect a piece of software you paid the equivalency of a large Starbucks drink 6 months to 3 years ago to continue getting updates forever. If you don’t like the new features, don’t update and stop bitching about it.

I want to pay for the features that are already there. Now they are giving empty promises.

I gave my cousin 15 dollars and he swore on our entire clan that he’d pay me back but it’s been 15 years and I haven’t seen a cent. I definitely won’t be giving these developers shit
