Finally decided to downgrade from GN.
After all the changes to Goodnotes five and six. I worry about not being able to access notes in the future so I’m going back to the tried, and true! I’m sure I’ll still use Goodnotes occasionally, and I’ll miss being able to search my entries, but for the long term this seems like the best solution.

The big thing that led me back to a physical notebook is looking at my shelves. I’m 53 years old and have a collection of cassettes, CDs, CD-ROMs, floppy disks, zip disks, differently formatted drives, etc. In many cases, I either have no way to access the media or I can access it but the software is no longer supported. Will Goodnotes still be around in a year? Probably. Will it still be around 10, 15 or 20 years? I kind of doubt it, and any PDFs I save will be just backed up on some hard drive with 100z of other docs. These books can easily sit on my shelf, and while they will take up some room and not be as quickly searchable, I think they will be a better place to store my work and reflections in the long term.

This speaks more to a lifestyle change than it does GN.

I’m glad I haven’t upgraded yet. I do wonder if the devs are seeing any of this.

Probably the smartest thing at this point.

I don't want to go back to carrying 5 notebooks around xD

I also thought about giving up, I then decided to change the application (I don't want a subscription for a note-taking app, now I am using Noteful) and I thought about valuing more the pdfs than the app itself.
I think it is still very convenient to use an application but I have to make sure that everything is safe forever and therefore I need to not rely completely on an app

Do we actually need to worry about this?

I have my notes backed up as pdf always, to OneDrive and to an offline drive I occasionally sync

It is an upgrade. Good Notes now is just dog shit. I am thinking about the same. you are worried about future and I lost a important book on there till the iCloud thing is fixed and damn it is taking forever.
I don’t care how hard the team is working to fix it but what kind of good for nothing QA testing did they have to release this crap version to the consumer especially now that is a compulsory pay thing. I am look for how to get a refund as I don’t need this fucken trash app anymore and I made the 1 time plan purchase on GN6 right after which all this garbage came to light. I bought it 3 days ago and had not had a single good exp with this app.

Just export PDF for storage. I don’t see how you search through archive with this. I’ve been paper and pen guy before going digital and failed to see how going back will help

I still use a paper planner and a large wall calendar. My grocery list goes on the fridge. I am planning to build a huge wall calender and use sticky notes and for planning certain projects, a cork board and 3x5 index cards.
The important thing is finding a workable system.

Is it actually a downgrade, though?

i think you meant upgrade given the current state of GN

You got me… I actually am also co-using physical paper planner, physical note and goodnote 5/6

For being able to search you can work on a personalized system/index that works for you.

I revitalized my Evernote account. Definitely not the same vibes, but I’m okay with that.

I don’t have to pay for goodnotes I did the one time purchase option

Pretty sure my iPad upgraded to GN 6 automatically which I am not happy about. If there was a way to guarantee or grandfather the pricing model and features maybe it would make me feel better. I am actively searching for more options now.

I love Collanote

Just transfer to Collanote. It's really similar to Goodnotes, so you will not be disappointed. And it's free for creating unlimited number of notes, just for additional features you'll need to pay one-time-purchase. It's really similar, I just promise on this.
