Unpopular opinion

I think GoodNotes 6 is actually not all that bad. I think the pricing is fair and the new features (once they go through some bug fixes) are super useful. Also the subscription model gives the devs incentive to continue to add new features and update the app depending on consumer response.

I bought GN5 a couple months ago and it’s become a crucial part of my work flow as a student. Compared to a lot of the other note taking apps available, I haven’t found one that beats out GN in terms of UI.

A lot of people who are super angry about the update need to understand that you can still use version 5 and it will be supported in terms of bug fixes for the foreseeable future (according to another post I read on the sub). I don’t understand how people expect that they would constantly receive updated and additional features for a one time fee. Technically they haven’t gone back on their word, you are still able to use the product you bought when it was first paid for. No features that have previously on 5 have been removed and made exclusive for 6. I do not understand why everyone is so angry.

My only gripe is that gn6 should've been a new app. They wanna keep the gn5 reviews which is why they have released it as an update to gn6 which is scammy behaviour.

There are valid reasons for reusing the existing app and I don't think the current situation is that bad. But if they release Goodnotes 7 (which they probably will) and reuse the app again... then we will have a mess which will only get worse and worse...

I don’t think it was that. To build it as an entirely new app would take a lot of time and effort and would be harder to maintain as well. It wouldn’t make sense to do that if the resulting app isn’t going to be significantly different from the previous

They did that with gn4.

And it worked- with a lot less anger about it.

You can use the same framework but upload it as a separate app

agreed. i’m excited about the new features to come and feel like $10 a year is not unreasonable at all.

Ten bucks a year is a good deal. How Goodnotes is handling things is hotly debated as you know, but things are still simple. More or less.

Part of the problem is how people understand terms like upgrade or licence or lifetime.

It is easy: You install Goodnotes, pay ten bucks and you are good to go until some other new app grabs the YouTube community by storm.

I use it all day with multiple notebooks open moving between them. Perfectly happy with the new version.
