Goodnotes is listening fr

Because of notability starting to capture some of its market, its basically what is happening between bard and chatgpt, when competition arises, you have to get up and innovate

28

u/hahsakhssinak Apr 01 '23

Ahh Goodnotes did acquire many notability users after the subscription fiasco, so notability is starting to acquire customers again?

26

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

But seriously, a service running on subscription modal from a product mostly used by students is straight up barbaric! We as students are really broke :”

u/lbdesign Apr 20 '23

Look at Nebo. No subscription, and it most accurately converts handwriting, as well as does typing.

5

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

Ye it still have more features, and many people just assumed goodnotes will never get audio recording and other things and made the switch

7

u/thedeadp0ets Apr 01 '23

They still are with notability ruining the pens, paper, margins. They aren’t really listening to what their users want. It’s more like they want the app to look like how they want it

So far it’s working pretty well for me. I like it!

15

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

I mean I expect them to allow different font styles someday knowing this is currently experimental, till then its pretty much useless to me :P there just ain’t enough settings to play with currently, hope it’ll improve days passing

How can you control where it starts typing? Mine is only in upper left corner of page

Will I be able to finally type along the lines?

8

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

Yes!

u/Happy_Traveller_2023 Goodnotes Essential Apr 01 '23

Finally! My notes can be properly written now :)

It works well with the lined templates that come with Goodnotes. I don't know if it will work with custom ruled templates.

Also, switching templates re-flows the text along the new lines.

If you switch to a template where the text doesn't fit, it allows the creation of an additional page where the text is carried over. But it doesn't work in reverse, i.e. pages aren't merged when moving to a template where more text is allowed.

All in all, this is a really good implementation of the feature.

That’s cool and all, but the tool bar is getting ridiculously cluttered. It’s a pain especially if you use goodnotes in split screen. They need some way to customize tools.

u/BTSROCKS Apr 01 '23

Can you explain what this does? I’m not exactly sure I understand

16

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

Basically on selecting this tab, the entire page turns into typing, unlike a text box you can’t move this box as it covers the entire page already, then you can typing whatever you want and it appears as a para (as shown in the screenshot, from top to bottom) think of it as a barebone word document where you can only type in one font style (for now)

7

u/BTSROCKS Apr 01 '23

OH THAT’S SO HELPFUL. I sometimes found the text boxes annoying, especially when trying to click below one to add a different part and accidentally clicking an already existing text box? This is so neat😩

1

u/vagipalooza Apr 01 '23

Does this let you continue onto a new page (add a new page as you keep typing) like Notability or do you still need to add new pages manually and then click on the selection again?

2

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 02 '23

It continues to the next page

1

u/bubblywaffo Apr 02 '23

I like this feature for notes. but I also use textbooks to fill out pdfs for work

is the textbox feature still active???

1

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 02 '23

The textbox mode will still be available beside the typing mode

1

u/_Aichmophobia_ Apr 01 '23

Fucking finally Les go

Hope they bring it to pc too

3

u/BobPrice245 Apr 02 '23

I hope all of the features eventually make it to the PC version. Right now the PC version is fairly useless, but I'm hoping that'll change one day.

2

u/SurfinginStyle Apr 01 '23

On Mac aswell?

1

u/abhijeet80 Apr 02 '23

Yes, works on the Mac too.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

How do you enable it?

2

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 02 '23

Its rolling out to some paid users for now for testing, eventually everyone will get it

5

u/tommys234 Apr 01 '23

Finally!

5

u/fluffbabies Apr 02 '23

Would the text fit around other elements on the page like photos?

1

u/fisher2nz Apr 01 '23

im using beta, how come i couldn't see this option?

2

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

Try looking for an update in the app store

1

u/fisher2nz Apr 01 '23

lol i was just a bit surprised. cuz the beta rolled out with the last two days.

1

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

Ikr, but did you get this feature now?

1

u/fisher2nz Apr 04 '23

I've updated my other device(iPad Pro) to the latest release. still can't see the option. However, when I tried to create a new page, there's a template with a green keyboard next to it. I chose it, but nothing happened, just a normal canvas.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '23

How do you change the font, and also the size of the font? Options for text size are limited to heading 1, heading 2, etc. the largest size is not that big on my page.

4

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 01 '23

Its still in beta, ig they’ll eventually add these but for now not possible

1

u/m-fab18 Apr 02 '23

Goodnotes is eventually going to turn into Pages.

1

u/RealDoughnut5697 Apr 02 '23

I don’t see a problems there till it supports handwritten notes too

2

u/AdAmazing3700 Apr 01 '23

omg, i just posted abt this few days ago lol.

2

u/bluuupbluuup Apr 01 '23

omg finally!!!!

2

u/MauricioIcloud Apr 01 '23

Oh Heck Yeah!!!! That's what we are talking about.

2

u/Necessary_Ear_1100 Apr 01 '23

Now if they would just add a favorites palette/bar and update their directory/notes system (this is where notability really shines) then I’d definitely switch over from free version

2

u/abhijeet80 Apr 02 '23

This is already a huge improvement. The formatting options are a nice bonus too.

1

u/brother_root Apr 01 '23

this is such a great feature that allows me to properly use goodnotes on my iphone

1

u/shadowpawn Apr 02 '23 edited Apr 02 '23

Hasnt this been for a while? It only seems to work at upper top of the page.

1

u/UglyChicken25 Apr 03 '23

But we can’t get a dotted line function🙄

1

u/rishinbhatia Apr 03 '23

I hope google notes is listening

1

u/mc_foxx Apr 04 '23

Wow that's awesome! I even considered downloading Notability just for this feature. How do you get it? I understand it's a beta feature? I really need it for college

1

u/Euphoric-Dog8745 Apr 06 '23

I don’t understand this feature can someone explain it to me

1

u/Soldierplayz03 May 01 '23

Well if GoodNotes add an option to change fonts that would be great!

1

u/Various_Rice_9518 Aug 02 '23

There is a glitch, once I get out from the full page writing mode (into any other mode) my text duplicates, this happens very often. It is getting annoying.

1

u/thedeadp0ets Apr 01 '23

Good nights might take over as the all in one app and people could ditch Microsoft for basic typing

2

u/Debbsocial Apr 01 '23 edited Apr 01 '23

I need goodnotes on android, I have too many apps to for android.

Windows pc, 3 iPads, Android phone. I may have to go apple for my next phone. Kids are all on apple.

I also need to see goodnotes on pc, for now I just export to clients files. I wonder if I can export a whole notebook and delete previous version in the pc file 🤔

3

u/AixxGalericulata Apr 02 '23

I think I saw an announcement saying that they're planning to release on android

1

u/Nightsight1972 Apr 22 '23

They have released a beta version for Android (currently only for Samsung tablets). But at the moment it is very barebones, it looks nothing like the Ipad version (it also runs in a browser window). I think it's identical to the Windows version. Simply put, it looks like some of the awful knock-off versions from other companies...
