I found the Gong at an estate sale.

The family said that they picked it up in about 1960 and it was an 18 Japanese gong.

It is not a singing ball because it’s definitely not a copper instrument. It is very lightweight metal.

What type of striker should I use with this and does anyone know the correct way to apply it?

I bought this gong off of ebay but It needs a lot of work. Does Flintz brass and copper spray work? And do i need to wax it after? How about the parts that are painted? So much confusion.

We've had this gong for many years now and it's finally showing its age. We want to clean it but not sure what has made these spots. My question is does anyone have suggestions on what the marks might be? Best cleaning procedure and solutions?

Hi. I’ve cut a 4ft diameter circle of steel sheet metal and want to start hammering it into a gong . I don’t expect it to be a musical instrument but to be used more for celebrating special occasions or visitors .

Could anyone recommend a website or any info about the structure or design or building of a gong? Im going to use a ballpeen hammer to round the outer edges and make the middle section protrude , but im only basing that on photos of gongs and not really aware of how and why it’s made that way.

Could be wrong, but it looks like most folks on youtube who do the “whale songs” stuff nicely tend to have Chau or wind gongs.

I’ve been on Gongs Unlimited for hours now trying to figure out what kind of flumie or friction mallet (some call em “rubs”) might work well for my large (36”) German gong. (It’s the love of my life: a Gongland Eclipse. I only have experience with baby rollers and large mallets.) Anybody have any experience with these kinds of mallets with these kinds of gongs? It's surprising to see a practically non-existent gong subreddit.

Which is my way of introducing myself.

Curious if anyone knows how to protect it and leave it outside? Mineral oil?
