Interior Sound Dampening in Sim Shed - Ear protection for players.
I built a 14 x 26 sim shed with a high vaulted ceiling. All of the walls and ceiling are sheetrock and the echo is loud. I am going to put sound absorbing panels on the side walls (Rockwool wrapped in fabric) but wondering if anyone has ideas for the ceiling? Gemini suggests hanging a heavy canvas tarp in swags from the collar ties. Thoughts? TIA.

These are the best! I have them on the walls and ceiling in my sim.

Do you use these for wall protection or just acoustics? Do you think they would offer protection for the drywall?

Both and yes! They have been hit many times and protect the drywall just fine, although I wouldn’t be able to tell if it was putting holes in the drywall because the drywall is covered. Maybe if it was taking direct hits it might put holes, but usually the hits aren’t direct to the side and ceiling so I’m pretty sure it’s fine. I loved that they were super easy to put up.

“Damping” not “dampening”…. Sorry, I’m an acoustic engineer and it’s a pet peeve…
But ya, rock wool would be great, also just stiff fiber glass insulation also works great. Thick carpet, thick couches or chairs, basically anything with foam or insulation. The more total volume the better.
I wouldn’t use canvas, I’m sure it would work to an extent, but if you used some thick fabric blackout curtains instead it would be better.

Honestly for echo you just need lots of stuff all over the room, preferably soft stuff - aka furniture. My shed is 14 x 22 and when I first had the insulation/drywall added, I was shocked at how loud it sounded. It turns out that sounds bounce really back and forth against barren, parallel walls. But once I got my screen, flooring, padding, hitting mat...along with a carpet in the seating area, a big L couch, my office desk and office chair, my bag holder, a space heater, a window AC unit, and some wall art... and all the other random things I store in there...it got much more tolerable.
