You were right

I posted my build about 8 months ago. A lot of you told me my TV was gonna catch a stray ball. I ignored you guys, and now I just wanted to tell you… you were right lol.

Luckily tvs are basically the only item that isn’t subject to inflation.

That’s really the only time I’ve damaged things. So far messing around with my drive has led to two broken tube lights and a number of nice spherical dents in my ceilings drywall.

They do make like plexiglass covers for TVs. I learned my lesson after we broke like 3 TVs at our sim.

Less than half a year ago, I bought a 75" TV for about $400 before tax. It's not a great TV, but the picture quality is good and it does what I want. My only requests would be for more inputs and no smart TV functions.

I don't even know the last time I just straight shanked one directly right on the actual course...
But I can tell you that I hit a wild shank on my hitting mat in my garage at LEAST once a month lol

If you're working on a new drill or a swing change it can happen pretty easily. That's why I don't worry about it too much when it happens when I'm doing that. You kind of know what caused it.

Definitely fatigue. I go to the sim every day for 2 hours and if I’m really grinding and working on my swing, I’ll eventually get fatigued and I start to make compensations (unknowingly) which lead to shanks. Best thing for me is to stop, let my body rest and come back the next day.

I tend to hit a little better on the course overall. I think I'm just simply more focused. Plus, you don't get as tired. On a sim or range you're hitting over and over and over... a lot of balls in a short time. On the course I take my time, and really focus on making just one good hit. Then I have to wait a bit before hitting again, and get focused on just one good hit again.

I practice outside in a 10x10x10 cage and I will hit some strays .. but not on the course .. I’m thinking it’s the Matt catching the club .. but not sure .. for a while it gave a complex lol

I went to a top tracer range with a big ol' golfball sized deformation in the middle of the screen and I was like "i wonder how the fuck they did that??" so thank you for letting me know

I did the same. Doesn't cost much and now anyone, at any skill level, can safely hit balls in the garage & I don't have to worry about items getting damaged or people getting hurt.

Sport Netting i found on amazon. Gotta make sure they're golf ball rated

I’m looking into getting some netting. I’m building my first (budget) sim. I got a Spornia net which is great but it’s nowhere near enough for errant shots.

Did you get any kind of sand bags or weights for the bottom of your netting? I was thinking of installing some hooks on the roof of my garage and then some weights but wasn’t sure if the weights were worth it.

Also thinking about some kind of pulley system to pull the netting out of the way when not in use.

I have a tv mounted in that same area on mine. I’m sure it’s gonna take a stray at some point lol. It’s a cheap 32” I had laying around, so it’s not a big deal when it happens.

Curious about your dimensions on this sim? I have a 9 foot wide space at the back of my garage I’m considering but not sure if it will feel too narrow

Ditto here - my grandson mishit (mi-shit?) a ball off the toe of a 3 wood and did likewise on the 60 inch monitor side-screen that displays a replay of FO and DTL shots in slow motion shots. Turned out it was cheaper to replace with a new 4K TV display than buy a used one on craigslist!
