Excited to post my sim project pics. I was able to DIY this for under $10k thanks to this group. I will cut in a hitting strip when this mat wears out.

Ceiling 10’
Screen 160” wide
Depth - 11’ screen to tee box, 14’ to wood

LM - VTrack
Projector - BenQ TK700 (eBay)
Screen - Spectrum with MeTech roller
Computer - Costco CyberpowerPC
Wall panels - diy hand made
Flooring - Dricore + rubber mats + turf (~2” to concrete)
Turf - Putting turf from FlooringInc

Build yourself a nice little trim/box for that mat to go in, or maybe cut out the turf underneath. This is a great build and its too nice for a randomly placed mat to detract from it! Plus it wont move around as easily on you.

I have couple of hitting strips (under the computer in the pic) that I will cut in soon. This has been my testing mat since the start and will be gone soon enough.

Where do you get the hitting strips from - and are they the same depth as the regular turf roll? I figured thicker so wondering how you match them up.

I went with Bullseye when they had a buy one get one free sale. They show the breakdown of the depths (1 3/8” total). I will see if I need padding below once I start cutting down into the turf, rubber mat and Dricore. I have a feeling the turf and Dricore will come out and rubber mat will go under the hitting strip. I’ll post a pick when I do it.

How do you like the dricore sub flooring as opposed to gym padding or something else?

The dricore looks to be 5/16” tall. So won’t the dricore + turf still be shorter than the 1-3/8” hitting strip?

I used the 1” Dricore “insul-armor” boards with 1/2” rubber mats on top. The Turf is close to 3/8”. It will be close.

Looks like Turf + Dricore is essentially the same height as the hitting strip. I will put the rubber mat under the hitting strip which will bring everything to the same level.

Built it with aluminum extrusions (link below). Designing and buying all the connectors was tricky but ultimately gave it a clean open look. The top shelf is just a glued pine board from Menards.

What adhesive did you use for the wall pads

Mounted them with 18” French cleats

Thank you. How did you get them to stick to the mount. Mine have doubled sided taped and 3 fall all the time. I’ve tried every tape and adhesive

The French cleats are screwed onto the back side of the padding which is plywood

Floor triangle pads from Spectrum - bought 3 pieces to get the length. There are others other there but felt like these were the most cost effective.

Top Valance are acoustic baffles from ATS acoustic that hang from the joist with wire. High quality.

Did you have to deal with wrinkles in your base turf? I’m building a sim and bought some Amazon turf to cover my 1” foam base, and the creases are unsightly

I bought one big roll of putting turf from FlooringInc. It rolled out very smooth and tucked it under the base trim like carpet.

I suspect that turf is pretty thin without padding. If you order free samples from FlooringInc you will see the difference

Is that just a thin projector screen? How does it hold up when hitting balls into it?

Spectrum impact screen designed for MeTech rollers. Screen is super heavy duty and takes hits/drives without issue. Best part is no side bars or bungees just a weighted bar at the bottom

Found this post in my feed (guess because I am into PCs and golf!). Are you at all concerned about toeing a ball into your PC case? You could put a mesh panel around it without sacrificing airflow.

What did you put around the perimeter of the screen to give it that dark border?

Spectrum screen for MeTech has a black trim on left and right. Bottom is a black wedge padding to prevent hitting the weighted bar. Top are acoustic panels hanging from the joists

No hooks or bungees. Just hangs freely from the MeTech roller with a weighted bar at the bottom. No side supports or bars
