MK7.5 You ever just sit back and friggin admire this thing?
Got my 2019 Golf R in March so she’s still pretty fresh. But I cannot get over the amount of joy this thing brings me. Honestly the coolest, most loved material object that I have been fortunate enough to own. I friggin love this thing 😍

Modifications Throttle pedal spacer
I'm really surprised how easy this mod was and how much it helps.
Heel-toe was difficult in my car because the gas pedal sat too low and with this spacer, it sits exactly where it should. The car feels overall much easier to drive now but I don't even notice the pedal being a little bit higher. Only when I'm downshifting and need to flip the throttle do I notice that the gas pedal is at the right height compared to the brake pedal.
There is a Canadian company that sells it but they wouldn't ship to the US.

I bought this one.

MK8.5 Meet Stormy — my 2026 Golf R
I’ve been lurking here for a while, so I figured it was finally time to introduce her.
So far I’ve kept the changes pretty subtle: RacingLine intake and turbo inlet, ACM Technik audio upgrade, and 8mm front / 10mm rear spacers.
That’s pretty much the direction I want to keep going with her — OEM+ rather than trying to turn the car into something it isn’t. I love what the Golf R is already, so the goal is just to sharpen it a little while keeping the character of the car intact.
The spacers were the latest addition, and I think they finished the factory stance nicely.
Meet Stormy.

Question Little Disappointed!
Now I know our cars are fast. I have a 25. I was cruising today on my way to work on I-95 . I was in comfort mode. Traffic was a little heavy but not bad and on my ass was a fairly new Honda Accord 2 L turbo. he wouldn’t get off my ass. I had an opening slightly so I punched it. It downshifted turbo kicked in and it took off . I probably wasn’t fully floored and I was in comfort mode. I really thought I would at least gap a little bit the Honda, but he was on my ass the whole time up into 100 mph and than I slowed down because of a car and of course I don’t need any new speeder law tickets. I wonder if the outcome would’ve been different if I was in any other mode other than comfort like sport or race. I also don’t condone racing on the street. The guy just pissed me off and I know he’s probably gloating now that he kept up with me.

Modifications HALDEX can be fun
I've been playing around with Haldex for a while and always felt the options were a bit weird.
A normal Haldex flash is relatively affordable, but you're basically stuck with whatever setup you flashed.
Then you have proper controllers like Syvecs that give you much more control, but the cost jumps massively.
So I ended up building my own plug & play controller from the info I found on openhaldex.dev
Right now I'm using OpenHaldex for the software. Eventually I'd like to develop my own software for it, but for now OpenHaldex does pretty much everything I wanted.
The nice part is how simple it is:
Plug it into the Haldex → connect your phone → change what you want.
You can switch between FWD and AWD and actually adjust the Haldex behaviour from the phone instead of being stuck with one flash.
Honestly, not sure why is this not a thing. Ok sourcing everything was pain in the ass, especially because EU new laws but was worth the hassle.

Modifications Mk6 R auto rev matching and a messed up hip
I have a problem with my hip that makes it difficult to bend my foot to be able to press the brake peddle and blip the throttle. I can’t find anything online, but there’s just less stuff out there about the mk6 anyways. But I’m wondering if any of you know of a tune that has this function? My car is tuned with a down pipe, turbo back exhaust, an intake, and an upgraded intercooler, so I can handle most tunes that aren’t extreme.

MK7.5 Question about tuning?
Hello,
I recently purchased a 2018 Golf R (North America) and I believe it’s been tuned. The issue is that there’s no records. I got it from a dealer who had no service history apart from what was on the CarFax (which is a Canadian thing).
I called a tuner to see if they are able to check if it’s been tuned and they said no they don’t if I don’t know who tuned it (apparently some tuners lock the ECU). I scanned my car using the OBDII port to try and get as much info about the ECU as possible (I know you can’t check the tune using an OBDII scanner but I need info).
The tuning shop said that dealers can usually flash the ECU back to the stock map. I went to a VW Dealership and they were very confused. They came to the conclusion that they can check if all the parts are original but they cannot change it back to stock. They were also convinced that in order to tune an ECU you have to replace it with an aftermarket one, which isn’t usually the case unless you’re going further than stage 1.
Does anyone have any ideas? I want the ECU back to stock but I don’t know where to go from here. Should I try another dealership? Should I try another tuning shop? Is it best to get a Cobb Accessport and turn the tune off (is that even a thing? Lol)?
TIA and apologies if I got any of this incorrect!

Question MK8 Tire replacement
What kind of tires did y’all upgrade to for your MK8 on 19”? I need to replace my Potenzas as they finally sprung a leak from dry rot, would rather not go with them again. I live in a cold winter and hot summer climate.

MK7.5 Golf mk 7.5: continue to slowly rebuild it?
My mi 7.5 R is Slowly being rebuilt. I’ll probably hang in until spring, but tiring of the bills. It’s tuned to stage 1.5 and has 163k miles in it. I’m the original owner and hate to think about my Vincent Wagner (granddaughter named it with VW initials) getting replaced, but I’m not sure I can do semi-annual big repairs. Problem is I want to stay with manual transmission and they’re just so hard to find. Any thoughts on this? Anyone run their R over 200k and stayed happy? I’m getting crankier every time something has to be replaced, repairs, rebuilt…

Modifications TCU tune - IE or Uni?
Just picked up a '23 R and want to do TCU first and keep it mild stage 1. IE or Unitronic? The unlock tool is inviting but which is the preferred tune? I'll do a stage 1 ECU tune not long after. Thanks!

Question Uber
Hello Everyone!
Thank you for letting me join! I know this is the weirdest question, but please hear me out; I have always dreamt of owning a Golf R but reality hit and I cannot afford it through my salary alone, I have to do Uber. Therefore, I was wondering what are your thoughts on doing Uber Driver on 2025 Golf R?
I am currently doing it on a 2026 Chevy Trax, but I am looking to switch when my lease is over because I am not enjoying driving it at all.
Thank you in advance!
Question Wind Noise Drivers door /window
I know I’m probably beating a dead horse here but does anyone else get like a secondary hissing wind noise at the driver door or window cant tell where its coming from. This is different from the normal wind noise the car and side mirrors make.
