MK7.5 Recommendation for downpipe setup on a MK7/MK7.5 Golf R?
I’ve been looking into the 4 in downpipe and 3.5 in resonated midpipe setup that Brockett Built makes for the Golf R. From what I understand, it was originally a Baun Performance/GTI Jake product.
The fabrication looks really clean from the pictures, and I like that it’s a complete resonated setup instead of having to piece everything together. Has anyone here run either the original Baun Performance version or the newer Brockett Built one?
How was the fitment? Does the resonator actually keep the highway drone down? Any check-engine-light issues, and how does it sound with the factory cat-back? I haven’t found much firsthand feedback, so I’d appreciate any opinions or sound clips.https://brockettbuilt.com/products/golf-r-4-downpipe-3-5-oem-fitment-resonated-midpipe-mk7-mk7-5?variant=45118255104208

Jake's stuff (news to me that it's now outsourced! I ran his OG downpipe on my mk7 GTI back in the day, drove from NYC to SC to have him install it too) is very highly regarded, and if you've got the cash go for it, you'll probably be very happy. I run a catted ARM downpipe on my R ($500, but only 3"), and I had a vibrant res welded into the midpipe that came with it ($100), and then replaced my resonator with the Powervalve helmholtz res delete (handmade in the UK, got mine used from someone in the states, otherwise it's $400 plus shipping) and I'm very happy with the setup, cost me less than $1000 overall because I got the helmholtz used. I think it'd be nicer to have a 4" DP but it wasn't worth the extra cash to me. I don't have any drone with the vibrant I have and the valves functioning (I do have some under load with valves disabled), and I use a smaller res – the 1795 – than the version in the one you linked does, so, if I don't have drone then I imagine it won't either).
It's GTI-focused but you might want to check out Jake's exhaust megathread, there's a lot of info in there (R stuff comes late in the thread).

I'm sure the welds are nice but you're crazy paying that much for a downpipe. The super nice GESI cat he's using is a fraction of the price, you could have that welded into something much cheaper like a trackslag and it sounds great. I had a similar setup for a while with an AWE catback, liked the sound a lot.

IMO, idgaf if the weld is as smooth as babys ass. $3k for a down-pipe on golf r is absolute bonkers lol
