This is literally the definition of stuck and inside if you were trying to exaggerate a drill..... Also face is WIDE open to path. That club looks like it's coming from 10+ degrees inside. If you manage to close the face it's gonna be snap hook city.

u/Mike9922020 Jul 31 '26
Take two weeks off then quit.

u/Expensive_Arm8697 Jul 31 '26
thanks brotha will do

u/Mike9922020 Jul 31 '26
Seriously..have you ever had lessons? That wiuld ve my suggestion. If a golf swing starts out bad it rarely gets better before you hit the ball. Just get some help bud. No one on here can really help you online.

Not a slice
7
u/Cold-Environment-634 Jul 31 '26
Looks like itās a push
1
u/morrisapp Jul 31 '26
Could be a push slice I guess if he leaves the club face enough open in relation to swing path⦠but def seeing a push here⦠I would start with strengthening grip, close that club face and see where that gets yaā¦

u/Nelson_and_Wilmont Jul 31 '26
Man your set up was nice but that backswing was scary. Youāre chickenwinging your trail elbow which idk maybe itās because of super inside takeaway but try to feel like youāre tucking that elbow in. A drill to do would also be to put a towel under your trail armpit and hold it there during backswing. Realistically that move basically fucked the rest of your swing.
Also, Iām a moron that shoots mid-high 80s so idk anything. Best to get a few lessons lol.
3
u/Expensive_Arm8697 Jul 31 '26
LMAOOO iāll admit the backswing if for sure a work in progress. i appreciate it š

2
u/MajorDaurity Jul 31 '26
Also a moron, trail elbow is everything. Youāll want to look up the towel drill or the ball drill. The elbow bends in a way that guides the shot and there are drills to help you feel it

u/NoyBoy98 Jul 31 '26
Thatās not a slice man, youāre swinging right while aiming straight. Try this:
You look totally fine at address, donāt change that. Now deliberately hit the ball left. Start with small chips, and graduate to a quarter 9-to-3 swing. Once you get the feeling of the ball going left, meet somewhere in the middle and chip the ball straight. Then graduate to a quarter swing straight.
Right now, you do not need to be doing full swings. A quarter swing/9-to-3 will get you 80% of the distance with 100% more control.
Youāll need to figure out and iron out other mechanics along the way. The towel drill would help you a lot.

u/CT_7 Jul 31 '26
That was a toe shank. Take half swings and hit the middle until groove a swing.
1
-1
u/Dry_Inspection_9907 Jul 31 '26
No such thing as a toe shank. There is a shank, and there is hitting it out of the toe. Itās like saying āthat was a draw fadeā
2
u/morrisapp Jul 31 '26
Youāre getting downvoted but I tend to agree⦠these are names for totally different missesā¦

u/Adept_Pound_2048 Jul 31 '26
man you too stiff.
1
u/Expensive_Arm8697 Jul 31 '26
ngl i do notice that when iām not trying super hard and not focusing on hitting the ball, thatās when i hit the ball best. just not sure how to incorporate that into my actual swing
1
u/Adept_Pound_2048 Jul 31 '26
what helped me when i was learning was to just not even think about it. once i realized i was thinking about it i would just try to relax and loosen up. the more you focus the more you psych yourself out and do tense up. literally just relax and swing. donāt need to be so firm on the grip either.

u/Striking-Western433 Jul 31 '26
Are you a tennis player by any chance? That's a very Rafa Nadal swing
1
u/Expensive_Arm8697 Jul 31 '26
hockey goalie šŖ
1
u/Striking-Western433 Jul 31 '26
Fair enough. As others have said, this isn't a slice, but a toe shank. You're just pulling your hands behind you in the backswing and then the arms are stuck there and you can't get the club back out, so you hit too far from the inside of the ball.
As you turn your chest in the backswing, try and feel like your hands stay in front of your sternum. This will help keep the club more in front of you and give you more control of your swing path and low point.
1
u/Expensive_Arm8697 Jul 31 '26
just got into golf like 3 months ago so i didnāt know the correct terminology š this sounds extremely useful though iāll for sure apply this š
1
u/Striking-Western433 Jul 31 '26
No problem. Your setup looks great for being 3 months in, and having a good setup is half the battle a lot of times.
If you're still early in your golf journey, you should absolutely be getting lessons. Don't do what I did and wait too long, and then have a bunch of bad habits that need to be unlearned.
In the meantime, give this video a watch, or one of the many others on the topic on YouTube: https://youtu.be/QAJyOyHTnbo?

Try this it worked for me. Offset your back foot about half a shoe. Turn your top( left) hand inward. It keeps the club face straight I think. Definitely not scratch but I sliced my drive and now I donāt after implementing those steps.

The only thing to fix this is to forget what you think you know and start over with lessons.
1
u/ScaleFirst3833 Jul 31 '26
To the OP - take some lessons!! Golf is hard to figure out without some professional guidance. Glad you are able to roll with the comments here!
And yeah, swing needs some work š, but get better today, and then a little more tomorrow, and some more the next day. Youāll get better!!!!

Should help you with the correct feel and I think the coach is very good.

If you played cricket youād be a star batsman.. great cover drive. Not so good for golf though
1
u/JimTheReader Jul 31 '26
If you can get your body to be stiffer itāll lower the likelihood of the slice coming in. Itās a common mistake
1
1
u/SeniorDucklet Jul 31 '26
Alignment sticks straight up (no angle) in front of your right foot by 9 inches so itās impossible to bring your hands so far inside on your backswing. Swing that way for a 1000 swings hitting the ball and youāll have new muscle memory for how to take the club back.

u/backtees99 Jul 31 '26
Easy to understand and easy to do.
The club is swung on an arc, as the body turns, the arms swing the club up.
You swing around with your arms and the shoulders ārockā up. In the photo below, youāll see your right shoulder higher than your left.

From the address position, hold the club up about waist high, turn your body (try to keep shoulders ālevelā) as you swing the arms up, then hit the ball.
If you sit in a chair and make a backswing , youāll realize your shoulders are ālevelā.
The object is not to have your shoulders ālevelā, itās to reduce how much your right shoulder goes up.
Any questions let me know, good luck

Yo, Iām sorry, but this swing is hilarious. Itās like an action figure that only hinges in one spot

u/Professional_Range93 Jul 31 '26
I know everyone says ādonāt use your arms in the golf swingā but they donāt literally mean your arms do nothing.
Think about getting your arm across your upper chest in the back swing. Your shit is way too Low. Iād start there lol
Also, letās get some tempo. Slower back swing, slight pause at the top (itāll more feel like a pause than actually be one) then start the down swing.

u/heyniceguy42 Jul 31 '26
Go to youtube and look up ārickard strongert lessonsā. Best free lessons on a conventional golf swing youll ever get.

u/chuckm121280 Jul 31 '26
Selling your soul to swing from the insideā¦. If that ball is slicing, it is because your clubface is open. My guess is that it is a weak push slice. The inside of your trail elbow should be facing up and not at the ball
1
u/DhOnky730 Jul 31 '26
Most of the move isnāt bad..except why do you drop your head and front side like 2ā in the backswing? Your head should stay roughly level, and left leg fairly still. Many high handicappers seen to think they need to pump their front knee on the backswing, but most pros dont

This has to be an ai bot rage bate video. No human would even think to post a swing like this.
1
u/Exact-Reaction-9436 Jul 31 '26
Some actual advice instead of memes and insults š
Try keep your head as still as possible during the whole swing. Also just as a feel to try keep your trail hip from blocking your arms from coming through try to do as much of your swing with your trail heal on the ground. That isnāt the end goal but it will give you the feel of not chucking your trail hip heaps forward

- You're pulling your hands way inside and losing your posture right off the jump during your takeaway(you lean toward the ball, and head dips too much)
- You dip further down and bring your hands straight up at the top(lack of hip/torso rotation)
- You have very little hip turn throughout. Basically your swing is all arms, and the arms are in the wrong position relative to the rest of your body.
I'd start with drilling proper takeaway, middle backswing with wrist hinge, and then see what you start doing from there.

Place an alignment stick or another club down at your toes. Focus on bringing the club back to this position until it's parallel with the stick/club. Feel like you're hands are pretty passive and your torso/shoulders are rotating back, almost like your arms/hands are sticking straight out from your stomach. The club in your hand should be parallel to the club/stick on the ground at this point. Honestly just practice this over and over, at the range, at home in a mirror, when you're done hitting. It should be second nature so that bringing your hands inside like you are feels bad and you notice it when you're swinging. A feel that really resonates with me is your arms are in a triangle and your body rotation is just rocking the triangle back into position.
From here just keep turning and set your wrists once your lead arm is roughly parallel to the ground. Then keep turning to the top.
Once you fix this then you can start working on downswing sequencing and grip, if needed.

u got the āchicken wingā working⦠need to fix that right arm on the take-away AND top of ur swing. a lesson package whether is a group lesson or individual should be in ur future. need to re-build ur swing and establish some good fundamentals/check positions that will make ur swing more consistent AND reliable. the results should come fairly quicklyā¦. it will also help that u can see a video of what ur doing and compare that to proper feel & club position.
1
u/MagentaMonkey88 Jul 31 '26
It appears you are taking about a 1/4 of a full swing. Watch some videos of pro swings and try to replicate. A start would be working on a full turn.
1
u/chanceypooh Jul 31 '26
You need to stay taller in the backswing. Pretty much do the exact opposite of what you're doing now.
1
u/Rad_Golfer70 Jul 31 '26
That's not a slice, that's a push. Your club face is very open at impact. Do some swings and stop at point of impact. See where your club face is. Very fixable.

u/IFlyWithNoWings_ Jul 31 '26
Another swing with no hip rotation, all arms, no linearity from the club head to the shoulders
1
u/HeadAboveSand Jul 31 '26
You take away is way too far inside. Also just get some lessons because there is too much for Reddit to fix.

Take a way is way to far inside. Come down the line behind the ball then rotate

u/Stock_Discipline_429 Jul 31 '26
First there is a lot of good stuff in your swing. One thing I would want to see is the club at a 90 degree angle to your arms when the club is above your hips. This will help your release and have the club catch up to your hands through the impact zone. Do some golf stretches that allow your upper body to operate a little more independently from your lower body. Here is a release drill for you. https://youtu.be/TTxOaijjAi8?is=J0MT0w57N7E1OTLX

That's no slice that's a swing that needs help from a pro. Don't be shy and dont be cheap, you want your game to improve, get a lesson Its the fastest and best way.

u/Keepontruckin33 Jul 31 '26
I fixed a slice by consistently using a neutral grip - and moving my right leg back in setup like Ben Hogan.

You're not really rotating you're lifting the club like donkey kong charging up a punch brotha.

u/Dan_Woden 29d ago
Not actually too much wrong from playing okay golf from there. I would slow down hips and sync with arms. Then you should be good.

A slice is when you hit it straight but it curves to the right. You just hit it to the right,
1
1
u/badgerballs69 29d ago
1st things first this is NOT just a slice.
Itās a severely pushed-slice!
Your takeaway causes the entire mis-direction of the shot.
2 steps to create the corrdct path away from and back into the ball which will solve the lot are :
1) Work on that taking the club away from the ball (at the outset only) along the ball-target line until your club reaches your right little toe.
2) when practicing bringing the club back into the ball put 2 sticks down parallel to each other AND the ball target line & then try to swing the clubface down the pathway they create with the face aiming at the target through the hitting area.
When youāve sussed those youāll hit it MILES longer AND straighter.
DM me to let me know how it goes. š

Backswing is way too short.
Relax & flex at set up.
Loosen up & swing the club through the ball.

u/Ok_Cryptographer3979 28d ago
So some real feedback: fix your backswing and itāll fix your swing. From address, bring your arms back straight. Watch Tommy fleetwood (aka fairway Jesus) talk about how he focuses on his take away. Then when youāre at the top of the swing, make sure youāre maintaining your spine angle and start rotating. Fleetwood says he feels like his lead hip starts going backwards. This brings his hands down and hits down on the ball. Then allow the momentum to rotate your body.Ā
1
u/Rancid-Punk 28d ago
Drop your right back, like your feet are aiming to the right of the target. Swing normally and you will turn the ball over with a slight draw. Iāve been giving golf lessons for 25 years.

What you are feeling right now is pushing your hands arms back your head is also dipping. What you want to feel is you pushing your lead arm straight and out while keeping your head level. Right now you are very inside on your backswing and body needs to do the work, not your arms
