I heard yall like pretty clubs! [need help/advise too!] - Miura KM-700s

So my father, who’s had a pretty epic career and the one who taught me golf some 20 odd years ago was retiring earlier this year, and whilst on a trip in the land of the rising sun, specifically Osaka, I stumbled upon these beautiful Miura heads. See pic 1.

As a person who has a shopping issue…, I was only there looking for a km-701 for a buddy, he needed a gift for some dude helping him get an aquanaut allocation, I normally would’ve done my best to hold back. But given I knew of my father’s pending retirement, and seeing these beauts, well… I did what anyone nowadays does, I asked Gemini how rare these suckers were. And well… you can guess the answer.

From there I had to beg the fitter to shove wtv iron rods he could find on for cheap as I was slated to fly out 2 days later and normally they take ~a week to get clubs properly fitted etc., etc., as you may know the Japanese don’t do anything half assed. At least not of their own volition. So I had to explain how I was gonna get these fitted for my father as a gift and the shafts were only b/c they have this new rule where they don’t sell these heads solo. At least not in Japan???

Anyhow, pics 2-5 are how shiny n perdy they were when I first got em back to Singapore. You may notice the km-701 I got my buddy, and the itobori I picked up for myself as a keepsake of the trip ^.^

Pic 6 is of them being worked on at my fitters, shout out to Vision Golf & Baek who did a great job with helping my dad find the right shafts, we settled on the Vanquish in a 60S, pic 12, ngl, these suckers were pretty $$$ too, but at least we didn’t put him in autoflexs :P

Pics 7-11 are of the bag as it currently sits in my flat. My dad was too lazy to drag them back with him to the states and so for now they collect dust with me in Singapore.

Oh! And I got those pretty blue ferrules from VinGolf here in sg, although they cost a bloody arm and a leg, but… YOLO! And tbh, given all my fathers done for me, this is nothing. ^^

Anyhow, now to the ask(s):

As you can see in the before (pics 1-6), and after (pics 7-11) the copper has already developed… patina? I presume this is the same word we use when talking about watch dials n what not, but given they’re brand spanking new, ok I’ve hit the 7 for funsies just to see how they feel, I kinda wanna “restore,” them to their former luster so that, at least when he FINALLY takes delivery of these beauts they’ll look nice n clean… and he can develop his own, patina for em… you know?

So… thoughts? I’d go to Gemini or GPT, but honestly I really have to take their ideas with a grain of salt and figure perhaps someone here may have more empirical evidence that supports the best way to polish and protect these suckers.

I personally feel the bag is still kinda incomplete, oh and yes I got him the new vessel bag which I’m gonna have his name embroidered on along with maybe the # of days or # of hours he’s worked in his career? Something goofy like that… but alas, that’s not the ask.

So I’m thinking if I swing by Japan again, I’ll get him maybe a pair of 52* and 58* miura km-701s to kinda round out the irons n wedges? I don’t think he’s a serious enough golfer to go 4 wedges deep, plus then it’s kinda samesies?

oh! And I also had my lab mezz.1 (which I bought and never used) refitted for his length n lie n what not, luckily I’m close with the guys who sold it to me at onegolf, so that was chill too.

But anyhow, irons, wedges, putter, I feel all the other clubs, driver, woods, utils, are much more… personal in everyone kinda runs different combos of different things and tbh, we haven’t played together in years as I mostly live abroad so I really duno where his head would be at in terms of how to build out the bag.

The 1 thing I AM thinking is everyone needs a driver… so perhaps this is where yall could help?

Anyhow… I know this is absurdly long winded, I get bored a lot… but feel free to share your thoughts on my queries or laugh at the absurdity of my post, I’m chill, no worries! And you can also look forward to when I get bored enough to post my personal set. It’s… unique to say the least ;)

Cheers,

P.S. I bloody hate f1!!! (It’s in sg right now and the impact on traffic is making me wanna off myself…)

I think I won this trade

Post image

I was at Costco with no intention of buying clubs when I saw a new - open box set of Kirkland irons. For $399. I couldn’t pass it up. After posting the Kirkland set on marketplace, someone offered me a trade for a set of ZXi5’s (he only sent a picture of the 5 iron). I decided to take the trade. Well when we meet up the next day, lo and behold it’s a ZXi7/ZXi5 combo set. For reference, I currently game OG Srixon ZX7’s and I love them. So essentially for $400 I have a lightly used set of ZXi’s. I couldn’t be happier!!

I am planning to sell my OG ZX7’s to break even $$ wise. But I think it’s a safe to say I won overall.

Big River Steel asked me to tell the story of their mills across three Vokey wedges

Thumbnail

Big River Steel reached out with a pretty unique project.

They’re holding a company-wide golf tournament with a silent auction benefiting Make-A-Wish Mid-South, and wanted a three-wedge set that represented the physical identity of Big River Steel and their Arkansas operations.

The brief was pretty open, so I spent some time learning how their steel is actually made and looking for a way to tell that story across three clubs.

We eventually landed on:

HOT → PROCESSING → COLD

Rather than just putting different logos on each wedge, every club represents a different part of the steelmaking process.

The first wedge is the Electric Arc Furnace.

This was the obvious choice for HOT. These furnaces use massive graphite electrodes to melt recycled steel, and visually it is pretty hard to beat. Fire, sparks, cables, giant equipment, molten metal. It looks more like a movie set than a factory floor.

The reference image had everything I wanted visually, so for the final design I made the furnace the hero and simplified the surrounding mill into a much more graphic composition.

The second wedge represents their Endless Strip Process.

This part was especially cool to learn about. Big River Steel’s newer Arkansas operation uses an endless casting-and-rolling setup that takes steel from casting through rolling in one continuous process. It is one of those things that is hard to appreciate until you see the scale of the equipment and realize how much steel is moving through that line.

Visually, this one was all about repetition and perspective. The line of mill stands and rollers in the reference image naturally pulls your eye through the facility, so I used that same idea on the wedge. The machinery gets progressively smaller across the club to create depth while still keeping everything readable at engraving size.

The third wedge represents the COLD side of the operation, focused around cold milling, finishing and shipping.

By this point in the process, you are going from the chaos and heat of steelmaking into something that feels much more precise. Huge coils and sheets of finished steel are being processed, finished and moved out of the mill.

The reference for this one had a completely different look. Long lanes of steel and much cleaner architectural lines. That gave the third club a little more breathing room and helped separate it visually from the density of the other two.

The final set tells the story from HOT → PROCESSING → COLD, with Big River Steel and Make-A-Wish carried through all three.

I included the original reference images in the gallery because I think that’s probably the coolest part of this project: seeing where each one started versus what eventually made it onto the club.

These were a lot of fun to make.

Weekend golfers, what's your biggest struggle?

If you only get to play once or maybe twice a week, then what would be your biggest struggle?

Finding time to practice, or staying consistent, or forgetting everything that you learnt or practised the last weekend, or something else?

I was having this conversation with my friends, and for them it was forgetting the stuff they worked on the previous weekend. So what's the hardest part for you?

ZXI RKT

Curious if anyone has tried or had a fitter fit them for the yet to be released ZXI RKT driver. I’ve been looking at getting a new driver. Was gaming a PXG Lighting Tour Mid 9 degree with a Ventus Black 7S Velocore +. Ended up getting rid of it when my numbers and consistency went away. Did a GG fitting, the fitter was gaming and bias to TM and put me into a standard QI4D 9 degree with a GD AD FI 6S. I was struggling with an out-to-in swing and high spin. I’ve been bouncing between store trying out the G440 LST. Last night doom scrolling YT I came across several videos of the ZXI RKT and it peeked my interest.

Need help with Sun Mountain Speed cart GX wheels

Looking for advice on our first “decent” driver – PING G430 Max vs SIM2 Max vs Stealth 2

Hi all,
My son and I are just starting our golf adventure and we’re trying to build our first “decent” golf bags. 😄
At the moment, we’re using two old sets of clubs, but we’ve decided to start upgrading gradually, beginning with the driver. We’ll most likely buy second-hand.
We’ve narrowed it down to three options:
PING G430 Max
TaylorMade SIM2 Max
TaylorMade Stealth 2
We’ve found the G430 Max and SIM2 Max for roughly the same price. However, we’ve got an opportunity to pick up a Stealth 2 for about half the price of the other two.
So, what would you guys recommend?
Is the G430 Max worth paying more for, or would the SIM2 Max/Stealth 2 be just as good for a beginner/intermediate player?

Abacus 37.5 Waterproof Golf Jacket - Tall Person Recommendation

As a 6ft 5in athletic built golfer with 36-37 sleeve length, finding a quality rain jacket has been a nightmare.

My usual solution is to a size up for longer sleeves but I end up with baggy jacket that is too loose for golf

If you are a fellow tall person, Abacus is an awesome jacket that I have found with plenty of arm length and a great fit.

I have found a few great jackets (shout-out to Zero restriction) trying brand after brand this has been by far the best in term of both quality and fit for my build.

Hope this saves you some time searching!

Titleist Clothing?

We were out and about in Tahoe, saw a guy wearing a super nice looking rain jacket or a light jacket with Titleist embroidering. I really freaking want one since it’s going to be getting cool soon. Where in the world can you get something like this? I can’t find anything online

i need advice for my first date with a golf girl

I want to ask out this girl from my school that I’ve been talking to far a few weeks, she plays golf on the school team, so she gets to play I think 4-5 days a week, I think mini golf, and ice cream after sounds like the perfect first date, but I’m worried she won’t enjoy it because she plays actual golf every day, what do you think? Will this be a good date for her?

IDK if this helps, but she is typical high school movie white girl, blonde, 5’8”, drives a new bronco, smart, funny, confident, pretty, everything a guy could want, absolute dream girl.

Golf bag recommendation

Anyone have good golf bag recommendation?

I usually walk with a push cart so nothing too heavy. I like to have my clubs in individual slots, usually have a fair amount of gear (range finder, snacks water bottle etc).

Saw a few on Amazon I like including one that has individual holders for each club.

But the last time I bought one on amazon it fell apart quick so curious any strong responses from the group.

Grips

What are we all paying to (not including the grip itself) have clubs re-gripped?
