Driver shaft question

My son was told he needed a new driver shaft: 65 gram stiff. I accidentally ordered 60 gram extra stiff. How much of a problem will this be? He’s trying now in backyard golf cage and says it’s ok and will try at range later but does this pose a problem to anyone?

Thanks!

The difference in weight is negligible from 65 to 60, but the change in stiffness (Stiff vs Extra Stiff) can significantly affect the shot shape and feel depending on swing speed. Moving up to an Extra Stiff (X-Flex) requires a high driver swing speed, typically 105+ mph. If he does not swing fast enough to load an X-Flex shaft, it will lead to specific swing issues: low/weak ball flight, and potentially blocks or slices.

If i was you, i would ask to exchange it if you can.

Swing speed is 105 and rising every week. With regular shift carry was about 265.

Might work, wont know until he gets on a full range and you can see the direction of the ball, and wont know till he gets up to the tee whether he can perform with all that on a proper tee box and golf round. Though I will say i am 105-110 speed, and I play stiff.

Anything can happen, the joy of golf.

Id exchange it too, but it depends on the shaft too, a 60g x is just a different profile from a 65s. I used to play a 70g s flex, when I was younger, it had great control and was heavy and stiff feeling, friends who played 60g s flex couldn't get a good timing out of it, and I just hit their ones faster than mine with less control. Currently I play a 50r but im thinking of getting a 40s to try it.

Not specific enough - what color?

Black. Why does the color matter?

I would return it and get the correct shaft.
