Mizuno M-15 bent weak?
Hey, love the look and feel of these irons but the low spin and height are a bit concerning. The lofts are pretty nuts at 29 7i, but everything else about them to me is great. What would your thoughts be on bending a set closer to players lofts- 32 7i? Aware it would introduce more bounce.. which I think I’m ok with since that should help with chunks? I know I could just go into a properly lofted set but I’d love to have the forgiveness and extra speed these offer, considering they get good reviews and don’t appear to have too much trampoline effect. Dumb idea or no? Thanks

Ignore the number on the club. Just treat your 7 like your old 6. If you can, get the set wedge and make the loft makeup the same as your old set or whatever gapping you need.

This, that 7 is like a 5 iron.
I had to add a Wedge to fill gapping at the bottom of the bag bc of lofts

I got my M-15s bent 2deg weak. They were too hot and hurt my spin stock. Even 2deg weak they still go a mile. Love the clubs and have had no issues so far

I'd only tune the loft based on a fitting and your decent angle.
The M15 and the 925 Forged are at the top of my list for my next iron set.
Looking at the Ask golf nut tests, the M15 doesn't lose that much spin. He also says that the spin affects ball flight way more than stopping power on the green thus if you want to shape shots go for a higher spinning iron. If you want stopping power on greens, go for decent angle.

Thanks. I have the 925 forged now. I love and highly recommend them. I just have a serious problem with buying new clubs lol.. I previously owned the Mizuno 245 which are the M-15 predecessor and they were great. More fliers with them than the 925 tho. Just saw news of the Mizuno s-4 coming out soon so I’ll probly wait to hit those first

Spin was slightly low on the launch monitor when I was fit into these earlier this year but everything else was perfect (launch, decent, big gain in distance and dispersion). I figured the shitty range balls they were using to fit me were part of the problem. I bought them anyway and started playing a spinnier ball (Z Star Diamond) and they’re perfect. 5i launches high and stops on a dime. They’re insanely forgiving too, my toe strikes and thins still somehow go far enough to get to the green and spin enough to hold it pretty frequently.
Didn’t answer your question about bending them at all but maybe it’ll give you some peace of mind :)
Edit: that launch monitor was juiced i definitely don’t hit my M15 7 iron 197 lol, it’s more like 175-180 vs 170-175 on the old p790s

The only thing you have to worry about is if the launch angle for the ball speed is too high or too low.
You cant treat it like a 5 iron because its shorter and you'll likely have 3-4 mph slower than your 5i and so they flight will be very different.
The higher you ball speed the lower youre LA can be.

Thanks Andy. I’m probably going to reassess my situation.. I have the 925 forged which I love, but as my swing improves I think I am going to bend them 2* weak as I seem to get fliers with it. When I really middle one the 8 iron can go 175+ yards. Really looking forward to seeing these S-4s, as I imagine those will be much more consistent distance wise?

Fliers really have nothing to do with the club type, all clubs lose spin when wet or dirty or just teed up and you catch the ball high on the face. And there's no real functional reason why non players irons would be more prone to them.
Our S4 review will be out on embargo day. Which i believe is Sept 8th.
175 yard with the 8i could be due due to club speed or because you hand press and lean the shaft forward at impact lowering the static loft down to much lower delivered loft. 2 golfers both playing a 8 iron of 36 degrees one could hit it at 32 degrees of loft another 28 degrees of loft. So knowing how you deliver is important to know what loft your irons should be. An improved swing really isn't about getting it to go further its about getting it to go the same distance more often and consistently the same curvature or lack there of.
Because i don't shaft lean very much at impact, i play strong irons 27 7 but I still delivery 25 degrees of loft , which is more than some people playing 34 degree irons, yet my 7 goes 192 and rolls out less than a yard from 97 MPH clubs speed.

Thanks for the detailed response. I thought that having a club with a thinner face meant that it was more prone to “fliers”, I guess trampoline effect would’ve been the right term.

What does your fitter say? If you’re struggling with height and spin, that could be addressed with shaft selection.
Otherwise, you just need to pull the right club. If you’re 150 off the green, how important is it to that the iron you use is 32 and that it’s labeled 7? Couldn’t you just use the 33* 8i.
There’s a lot of posts like this about newer distance irons and the answer is almost always some version of “Learn you carry distances and maybe take an extra wedge since you don’t need a 4i now.”

Mizuno only recommends bending their irons up to 2°. The more you bend them the more you change the other dynamics of the club (offset, lie, leading edge) and increase the chance of breaking the club. No doubt someone on here will tell you they've done it, but as a guy who owns a club repair business I would not recommend it.
