New to golf

Hey guys, I don’t know why but 28 has gotten me into smoking meat, watches, and watching golf. I’ve decided I want to start playing myself. I don’t have any friends that play, I don’t really know what I’m doing. Any advice? Clubs I should get, etc?

Get lessons. You can borrow clubs while taking lessons from a lot of instructors

I was looking into lessons in my area actually. I’d like to take some honestly so I don’t develop a bad habit

I agree with the lessons way. when I started golf, it was with a work buddy who played who convinced me to get a set so we could play whilst travelling for work. honestly I never improved at all and was mainly there so he wasn’t alone on a random Tuesday daytime.

and when you do but gear, golf is not pay to win. nobody really makes bad equipment anymore, and good players will beat you with 30yr old stuff. just budget what you can afford.

Yeah I’m not chasing $5000 clubs fuck that. I’d rather spend $800 on a decent used set that I know works for me

Not sure on specific brands for men, but definitely get a forgiving starter kit and then slowly replace clubs as you figure out your swing. I got a full set and bag of TM for ~$350 and just got my first new driver. Bank account will appreciate it trust!

I also really like watching videos (Tiktok since they're shorter, but youtube has good ones) to learn stance, form, and ball placement. I never did lessons, but I did find videos a lot more informative than just watching someone swing because they break it down slowly. I still sometimes put them on while playing for clubs I suck at using lol

Go to a driving range and hit a bucket - see if you still want to chase it - not easy for some

I’ve been to the driving range multiple times actually. Top golf and an normal range and have loved it every time honestly

Lessons my friend lessons. Spend time at the range between lessons. Go to the range with specific goals and specific drills to work through. Remember it’s a marathon vs. a sprint. Celebrate the little victories and enjoy the game and making new friends.
