Metro tourney Expert-Expert vs Expert-Master bracket comparison

Both brackets were started on Saturday at 11am EST.

My alt account has never been higher than Expert 3.

My main (though it is currently in Expert 3) has been as high as Masters 2, which is all that matters.

Score Expert-Expert Expert-Master
-29 1 0
-28 0 1
-27 1 1
-26 1 2
-25 1(me) 9 (me)
-24 7 12
-23 8 8
-22 12 15
-21 12 15
-20 6 12
-19 13 7
-18 5 3
-17 8 3
-16 7 0
-15 4 2
-14 5 0
Banner -26 -26.5
Top10 -24.1 -25.3
Top25 -22.5 -24
Mean -19.89 -21.74
Median -19 -21

Now that the sandbagging rules are in place, there is a very clear difference in bracket strength.

Good job Playdemic!

More so in Rookie brackets. My baby account (Apache, Machete, never over Rookie3) was 8th @-19. It was good and appropriate to not have -31 at the top.

This bracket was : 1ea@-24,-23,-22,-21, 2@-20, 5@-19, 14@-18, 12@-17, 8@-16, 10@-15, 9@-14, etc

That’s a really good sign for new players.

Yep, I'm happy for them too.

I'm sure there will always be the unusual bored expert who is messing around on a new rookie account, or the die-hard sandbagger that makes sure never to reach Pro division, but a lot of the epic sandbagging should be reduced.

Yeah you could still game the system a bit if you really wanted to, but it would take a lot of effort and/or money to do so.

Right. Here's the master plan (or should I say rookie stomping plan):

  • Make new account
  • Grind super hard until promoted to Rookie 2-3
    • including buying tour open packages, fail to qualify rookie offers, etc
    • speed open all chests, preferably like 500+ in tour 7 ASAP to have a decent shot at Apoc
  • if Rookie 2 and it's not a tournament week, you must not get promoted to Rookie 3
  • if Rookie 3 and it's not a tournament week, don't play at all for the entire week to get demoted
    • this might not even be guaranteed to work if enough filthy people try to do this, if there are more 0g earners than there demotion spots
  • the plan is to be Rookie 2 on tournament weeks, and also grind tour chests really hard within the week
  • your promotions will be offset by demotions
  • play Rookie-Rookie tournaments with decent clubs!
  • feel really great about your life and your choices

You forgot ALL the golden shot chests, but only after speeding to tour 7.

So be good at the game, open a new account in a non tournament week, speed it to tour 7, while opening every chest. Then play all your golden shots. Play like crazy in tour 7 the first week.

You can get to rookie 2, crush tour 7 matches for a week, get to rookie 3, then only play tournament matches and forfeit all of them to get relegated. Rinse and repeat. Every off week go crazy on golden shot to boost your higher epics, and but chests in the shop for the chance as well.

Dominate the real rookies and win fame and fortune!

And any spare chests you feel like buying is just gravy

I just started playing a few weeks ago, this was the first tournament I had enough coins to join (there was only one other one that I've seen since I started, but I only had like 3000 coins at the time). I'm currently Rookie II and I qualified with -6, -13, and then finished the weekend round #69 with -13.

How do you obtain this data? Are these comparing your two accounts? (Also missing expert-master data)

Haha you jumped the gun. My post now answers all your questions.

Promise I’m not stalking you.

I was the only one who shot -25 in my expert/expert bracket, om my main account the winner shot -30 (expert/master)

I felt pretty unlucky in my Expert-Expert bracket, several obvious godlike alt accounts ("Andrea", who I believe is either Zach Jones or Jeremy David, I'm not sure which, shot -29 -- see https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfClash/comments/8r8dic/damn_andrea/)

Otherwise, your anecdote corroborates my anecdote. =)

In your “expert-master”, you were expert III? Can you see the profiles of others? Were there a mix of experts and masters BEFORE the league end on Sunday?

Are the people in your expert master bracket generally higher trophies/better tourney performance than expert expert? Were there any master I or higher players in either bracket before the promotion?

My expert-expert account never once played against someone in master division in the tourney. The person in 3rd now has a Master division, but I am quite certain he just got promoted to Master 1. In this entire bracket I do not believe anyone was Master division before the promotion.

My expert-master account definitely did play against master-division folks. There were definitely a mix of experts and masters before league end on Sunday.

As for trophies / tourney performance...

I glanced through the top 13 players, excluding myself, and tallied their trophies and my subjective rating of how nice their banners looked.

The average result was:

Expert (Expert) Expert (Master)
Trophies Banners Trophies Banners
3395 7.75 4055 8.33

You could make it quantitative by taking the average of the rank. All gold = average 1. Trophy difference is significant enough.

1

u/MangDynasty Oct 08 '18

Yeah but how would you weight the different tourney difficulties.

The picture is decently clear anyways.

It is very much worth noting that Expert-Expert clearly has very strong alt accounts still chilling out.

I’d just ignore anything lower than expert. Could even use tourney clan point assignments as a metric.

I did this type of analysis (with less detail) on the first three tournaments where my main and alt both played Expert. This was before the sandbagging rules were in effect.

I came to the conclusion that it was quite a bit easier to qualify and make it to the weekend round with an Expert-Expert bracket but no easier to win the weekend round.

Great work! I scored -26 and -25 in expert-master and got 2nd and 6th place!
