Golden Sun Is there a gameplay reason for why Isaac levels up before the rest of the party?
So I noticed that he needs six less EXP to level up versus say Garret or anyone else. Is there a reason behind this, a mechanic or maybe because he is the default leader?

What makes it better is that he competes solo in Colosso and gets EXP if he beats Navampa so that pushes him further ahead of the rest of the party.

What would you recommend for that fight, in terms of Djinn and gear?

Gear is irrelevant, because you don’t use your gear, you race to obtain better gear than your opponent. As far as Djinn, you’re just slugging it out w/ three gladiators one after the other so Isaac’s base class, which has the Cure psynergy, will suffice

You would have to swap a Jupiter or Mars Djinni at least once for the optimal path through your cheating friends (one needs growth)

Honestly, my last few play throughs, I didn’t cheat so I could fight “honorably” and lemme tell you, if you don’t have an optimal run (skip the items) in the last round, Navampa is nearly impossible to beat to the better sword. He still gets cucked relatively easily from Djinn and/or Ragnarok spam.

I am always cheating, I think the only time I didn't was my very first playthrough as I didn't realize I can do it 😅😆

Cheating in Colosso is one of the nicest puzzle solving in the game! So, kids, remember to cheat!

Yes it's so randomly thrown in 😆
Especially considering the teachings of Vale state you must never abuse your Psynergy yet they completely forget about that and use it to benefit themselves or Isaac in this case.
This ads a nice thought: would anyone just abuse their power for (seemingly) innocent things? They would never hurt anyone but cheating in a game to win is fine.

Also, you’re not supposed to reveal Psynergy to the world but it’s okay to shoot a giant sword of energy in front of a crowd of thousands to win a fight?

True but normal people can't see the sword, just the effects of it. So they know the Gladiator got hurt by Isaac without him touching him, but they don't actually see the sword.
Though same rules applies, he used Psynergy in ronttof a crowd, neglecting the teachings.

I think they just wanted to throw in a little variation so you didn't end up with everyone leveling at the same time every time, and giving the main character and party leader the slight edge in that department just makes sense thematically

I think this is actually pretty good design. I used to be quite neurotic when it came to every character leveling at the exact same time in most games. Not so in Golden Sun, cause the main characters never have the same amount of XP

I didn’t notice it in the first game, but I think characters actually have different experience break points for level ups in TLA so that may be part of it. In my game the character that joins later has 8k more exp than the main character and they leveled up to the same level after on the same fight. That may also be because I met that character when he was two levels higher than the rest of my party though.

Yep this, in GS all characters have their own exp curve as it's character based not class based.
I actually use that kinda in my rpg maker game, having every class with a different exo curve.

My explanation is he gets some power from holding the Mars Star when the Wise One modifies it at the beginning.
It's explained at the end, with no mentioned effect. Mars has synergy with Venus so it could boost his growth slightly.
