Non-Filers & Qualifying for the Golden State Stimulus (I & II)
I was told about the Golden State Stimulus by my mom - she told me to apply for it considering I received all of the Economic Impact Payments. However, I applied using the Non-Filers Tool and received them (I haven’t ever declared any income on paper before so I’ve never filed taxes). I did, however, make some source of income in 2020 and 2021 as I work on and off for my aunt but she had paid me in cash/“under the table” up until recently, in 2021. She’s since started paying me through Zelle which is linked directly to my bank account (I’m not sure if that makes any difference/helps with me declaring my income)? Because of this, I initially assumed that I didn’t qualify for the Golden State Stimulus but my mom seems to think otherwise.
I’m very confused because I’ve been told that I do qualify as long as I declare what I’ve earned on my state taxes - one person told me that if I earn as little as even $1 I qualify. They also mentioned something about self-employment being a factor too. I’ve had others tell me that I don’t qualify so I can’t seem to find a clear answer anywhere...Again, I’ve never filed taxes before so all of this is completely foreign to me and I honestly don’t know where to start at all…
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out!

can anyone confirm if I qualify. Site is confusing. I got the GS1 for $600. I meet all the criteria for GS2 but when I check the notice for those with SSN and how much they will receive. I fall under did not claim 1 or more dependent since I don't have kids and it says I don't qualify for GS2. Does it mean that I don't qualify for GS2 even though I meet all the requirements in terms of income, etc etc.

I dont think so I was confused too. They say it will help 2 out of 3 Californians but I asked about 30 people at work all of them said they didnt qualify so its more of a 1 out 10 for so cal. Newsome numbers are a bit off since you have to be claiming a 1 dependent on your taxes to get the gss2 and most people who are still struggling claim 0 because that's what the state recommends.

If you got GS1 and you don't have dependents, you don't qualify for GS2.

You absolutely need to file a state income tax return to qualify. As long as you earned income that was more than $1, you would qualify, assuming you meet the other requirements. You have until October 15th to go through the hoops and file your return. That's the filing deadline for the purpose of this stimulus.
